HELLO ALL

Anyone out there into reloading 8mm Maus, that can share any tech notes with me, i.e. some good load combination data, things to watch out for from experience, Your best load for accruacy.

I am looking for a good load for moose, and elk, so maybe in the 200g range. Also smaller grain bullet for deer.

A cheap load for target shooting. I am using my husky maus sporter for the hunten, and the mil surps for tgt shooten.

I have all the gear and just getting started on my first reloads.:shotgun:

H-414 works well in my k98. I just picked up a box of Sierra 220 gr. IMHO that bullet would be great for moose.

What kind of velocity are you getting with those 220g and what grain load are you using?

I tried the 200gr Accubond for penetration/weight retention last weekend.
Considering they went quite deep through a big piece of pine they held up quite well. I am working with H4895 but haven't got it tuned yet, will keep you updated.

If you really want to make that 8x57 come alive, try Vihtavuori N150, N550 or N560 behind the bullets from 180 up. I have a Remington 700 Classic in 8x57 and it will get the 200 Accubond to 2650 with N560. The moose definitely aren't impressed!! I shot one young bull at about 260 yards, and he looked like someone pulled the rug out from under him. 200AB exited as well. Great performance from an older offering. Regards, Eagleye.

Thanks EagleEye, I already got the 200AB's now just have to find those powders.

With the Hornady 195g psp, Rem brass, Win LR primers, and 48.5g of IMR4064, I got a 1" group at 100 yards, but can't seem to find the velosity. I did get 2519 fps with the same set up and 47g of 4064. I used the Hornady 170g bullet for targets and deer hunting. I used Imr4064 at 49.5, to get 2640 fps, and found it to be a very good all round load. These loads were safe in my rifle, but may not be in others.

I've gotten great accuracy from inexpensive Speer 170's and 49.0 gr IMR 4064. This is a book maximum load from the Speer manyal and it is listed at 2740 fps - I have not chronied it or tried to push my load harder as it was the first load I tried and my rifle loved it. I shot 30 rounds one morning with it and try as I might, I couldn't get the damn rifle to group larger than 0.75" (off the bench).

I've got a couple of boxes if Sierra 220's that I plan on loading for moose; but haven't gotten to it yet. I'll post whenever I get results.

Oh, one warning - both SIR and WSS clearly list their 8mm Sierra 220gr Gameking bullets as coming in boxes of 100 for 24.99, but they actually come in boxes of 50. I wasn't to happy about that when I got them in tha mail! :(

50.3 RL 15 , Fed 210, Win case , Hornady 195 sp =2640 fps with no pressure signs in my Husqvarna 23.6 inch bbl at 12 feet. Sub moa three shot groups
Your mileage may vary

I got the same ripoff count from WSS also,so I went to the 195 Hornady.

Ive shot some 175 grain Sierra's with IMR 4064. Groups pretty good around max . I settled around 2670 pfs. My next workup will be with BL-C(2) . Hogdon data suggests around 2800 fps at max with sierra 175's.

Should be good medicine for deer, moose and black bear.

You asked for tips and things to watch out for. Just make sure your rifle is not the old .318" barrel. Very unlikely unless it is a commercial mauser sporter.

I get best results with a heavy bullet (195 gr) and a medium to medium slow powder RL-15, N150 4350.

45.3gr of H4895 with a GCed 180gr Lee cast bullet with Red Carnuba lube works nice in my M48 Yugo. Haven't had a chance to chrono it or fine tune the load a little better.
