8x58R Danish Krag Canadian Source for Dies?

Hey guys, is there a place that’s likely to carry 8x58R dies in Canada? Tradex doesn’t have any and it’s the only place I can think of.

I might have to order something out of the states, but I would prefer ordering from a Canadian supplier.

I just dealt with this myself, I found absolutely none in Canada and only a single shop in the US that had sets. That was Midsouth Shooter Supply with RCBS made for $70US, not bad considering CH4D is in the hundreds.

I have some cerrosafe on the way so I’m going to do a chamber cast and see what I’m working with before I start ordering stuff.

If I’m lucky then I might be able to fire form 8x56R or 7.62x54 brass, but I’ll need to neck size.

Does anyone know if an 8x58R will fit in an 8x57 neck size only collet die? It’s a fat cartridge.

If anyone has a collet die and can measure the inside diameter I’d be grateful.

8X56R is a good choice - it will be a bit short, but there will be enough neck to grip your bullet.

You can cludge together a die set. The first firing fireforms the 8X56 to roughly chamber dimensions and you can then neck size for 2-3 firings until it will no longer chamber at which time you can size it down with a 8X56 F/L Die just enough for it to chamber again. The low pressure takes a while for this to happen. I neck size with a 325 WSM F/L sizer. The 8X57 Collet Die is too long for it to work on the 8X56 brass, and too narrow for the body to fit in the die anyways.

I agree with Andy, Use 8 x 56 brass and 325 WSM dies.......never a problem.

When I bought my last 8X58RD, the package came with RCBS dies, 20 rds of brass made from stretched R-P 45-70, 20 rds of fire formed PRIVI 8X56R, and 14 rds of fire formed 45-70 that someone had sanded off the head stamp! Also included was a set of what was labelled as "case forming dies" These, as it turned out, were modified 8MM Rem Mag dies. These might be an alternative for loading dies. I made another 20 rds of brass from BELL 45-90, using the RCBS sizing die. I did load and fire ammo made from 8 X 56R and 7.62 X 54R with some success. I found the rim somewhat undersized and the extractor would slip over the rim if I wasn't careful closing the action.
