9.3 x 62 recoil is mild and the .6.5 x 55 is so sweet

It has taken me a long time to get to shoot my 9.3, and 6.5 since buying them ,but this past couple weeks I had the chance finally to burn up some powder. I was apprehensive to squeeze off the first 286 gr load in the 9.3 x 62 because of all the stories I read about it being a punishing load. With max loads and 286 gr bullets this rifle is not a kicker at all.
I have to say I was totally surprised at the recoil. It is much less than my 30-06 delivers with a 165 gr max load, and still noticeably less than a 200/220 gr max load in the 06.

The 6.5 x 55 and 140 gr partition loads is just so sweet to shoot. I think I found a new Deer rifle Favorite that will also be good for Elk.

The 9.3 is a Husky factory Sporter Mauser 98 from about the mid 40's era, and the 6.5 is a Swedish M38 . Both original chambering's & barrels.

I'm not here to pick a fight, but I think physics dictates what you say, to be wrong. Real recoil vs perceived is another can of worms, but there is no way the 9.3 kicks less than any load in a 30-06.

With a 286 grn Privi/58.5-59 grains Varget, it's what I would call brisk or lively. Marlin XL-7 with a 24" McGowan barrel . I'm not a recoil junky, nor am I a nervous nelly.....but the 9.3 is starting to develop some horsepower.

Yep I agree, I have a husky, 7lbs all up, five down, and recoil is stout, esp of bench, I have had enough after 15-20 shot's, no problem standing or kneeling, but the body can move with the recoil so much more.

That's a real sweet combo of classic rifles and chamberings you have there, I love it! You've got it all covered for hunting with those beauties.

The recoil from a 9.3X62 in a normal weight hunting rifle should not be intimidating to a seasoned rifleman, but if it kicks less than a .30/06, it was not a maximum load, or perhaps your .30/06 has a miserable stock. If your 9.3 was loaded with 60 grs of powder consistent with H-414 under a 286, it will get your attention when you touch it off.

I found that an 8lb all up 35 whelen loaded with 250s and a full charge of 4895 got your attention. Manageable, but there was no need to open the action to see if it fired! Not as violent as a 300 mag, but definitely more than an 06.

I enjoy shooting my CZ in 9.3 but I find that the "push" that some people claim it has is more like the push from a sledgehammer. I love the rifle and calibre but there is nothing mild about it. The single set trigger allows the cartridge to go off a fraction of a second before I close my eyes and tense up.

Recoil totally depends on stock fit. My left handed Zastava in 9.3 slapped me around and kicked me like a mule. I sold it. My buddy bought a right handed full stock Zastava in 9.3. I can shoot it just fine and it does feel like a strong shove. Now I'm thinking about another 9.3...

you always come back to the 9.3 .... even a zastava with a new stock, a pad but you will come back ...

Good point on the stock fit. IIRC my right hand Zastava chambered in 458 had noticeable cast off (good for a righty, bad for a lefty), and felt like getting punched in the jaw every shot. Sold it and bought a LH version of the same, and much better, relatively speaking.

Mine used to kick like a mule, I took the old recoil pad off, mounted a limb-saver and its a different rifle now - I get that push rather than the kick.

I was speaking with a friend of mine in SA last weekend, he tells me he uses 200 grain Impala bullets for everything up to and including Blue Wildebeest, anyone else using these mono-solids?

My load was with 55GR of IMR 4064 / 286 gr Privi, and 286 gr partitions. New Privi brass, and mag primers.
