9.3 x 62 recoil is mild and the .6.5 x 55 is so sweet

Told ya you would like it, Pete. :)

Ted

You were so right!!!!! and that sweet little 2.5 Post / Xhair scope is a perfect match for it. Now I need to install the Timney low swing safety that just arrived and it will be ready to hunt. Seems there is a bit of grinding to do to make the safety work proper. With that in mind I also picked up a couple spare cocking pieces, just in case I mess it up.:)

Just be sure to g o s l o w l y. It only takes a tad too much to make the safety sloppy.

Glad you are liking it after shooting it. Wondered if you were ever going to get out to the range?

Best,
Ted

I am using new Privi brass, and Mag primers.

Initially, in preparation for getting a 9.3x62, I lucked out at a local gun show and acquired a set of RCBS dies including a neck sizing die. With that, a quantity of new Lapua brass and 285gr prvi bullets. Since then, I acquired a variety of other bullets but haven't tried any of them yet as I'd be hard pressed to improve on the accuracy I'm getting with the 285gr prvi's. Perhaps once I get through playing with a few other recent items in the safe, I'll try some of the others.

I sold my soul to Partitions long ago , and only hunt with them , but for just shooting, rough sighting , etc I picked up the cheaper Privi' bullets. Partitions are just to expensive to plink with.

After a Mule Deer hunt on draw in AB with my Daughter & Son In Law,;)my guides:), a couple of years ago, I went a similar route. In the field dressing and later when butchering the game, my S.I.L. pointed out the difference in amount of loss, probably due to fragmentation of my lead core bullets compared to that of the Barnes bullets they were using. Since then, in a number of the calibres I use, I've been gradually changing over to Barnes, TSX and TTSX. Don't know if I'll go that route in all my hunting rifles but quite likely most.

I considered some of the mono bullets, but the thing with a partition I like is it expands at all ranges, and never blows up or sheds the core. Swift A frames are just as dependable.

Yea, the laws of physics tells me that my "lite" Tikka is generating 45 - 50 ft-lbs of recoil with max loads using RL-17 behind the 250 AB and 286 NP. And those laws don't lie... I feel every ounce of it!

2400 fps from a 286 is mild, and using powders like IMR4064 and Varget will max out in psi not far above that. RL-15 is better if that's what you want. However, RL-17 is a much slower powder in the class of IMR4350, and at 2400 the psi is only about 50,000. I push mine to .338 WM psi (64,000) in a rifle that is identical in all ways to the T3 Tikka in .338 WM. That my friends, WILL get your attention!

Yes, those are my hunting loads from that rifle -- a T3 Tikka Lite in 9.3 X 62, which was bought at EPPS over 4 years ago. And, I've wacked a couple of bears with it, and probably will another in my present bear hunt with the 250 AB at 2700+ fps.

jethunter makes a nice 285 grain cast bullet to plink with if your interested .

He sells cast bullets on here? Do you know what the price is?

I just picked up a T3 hunter and haven't fired it yet, but was thinking the 250 NAB's would be able to get a pretty good velocity and be a heavy hitter, I'm glad you posted the velocities, I'll have to look for some RL-17.

Matrix makes a nice 9.3 x270 gr bullet, they are extremely accurate in my Mauser.

I picked up some of the 290gr from Martix that are part of the selection I have on hand to 'try'. But, as/my previous post #22, with the accuracy I've obtained with the 285gr prvi bullets:redface:, I haven't tried any of the rest of that selection,;) yet.

A 9.3 x 62 generating around 3500 ft/lbs of muzzle energy is going to recoil more than a 30-06 generating around 3000, period.

If the OP's rifle is nice and comfy, well then, that is nice, however. :)

I remember having an old Stevens single shot 12ga, Long Tom that would bruise the body to no end, and kick like a mad Mule. Many guns later I know that not all guns feel the same even in the same caliber. That said the 9.3 I have delivers less recoil to me that the Rem 700 BDL I have in 30-06. I also have a little M94 , 30-30 that will slap the cheeks off of you , yet the M94 32 spl. from 1909 with the Octagon 26" barrel is a joy to shoot.
