9.3 x 62 vs 444 marlin

When you compare even the 375 h&H to the 45/70 it has to take a back seat, the bullet weight and frontal dia. give the 45/70 a decided edge in Taylor knock out...and I know the TSX crowd hate when you haul out the TKO values....because the wsms and saums only rate with other varmint calibers! oh and you can throw those metric cals in with them too!! (except for the 10,11,and 12 mm)(they are metric 45/70s)

Anyone who believes that a short magnum, ultra magnum, or any other cartridge variant automatically yields any substantial benefit in the field is taking severe liberties with history, physics, and common sense. The touting of a specific caliber or cartridge for normal big game hunting use is indefensible; it has never been supported by solid empirical evidence. Bullet selection and shot placement have always dwarfed the touting of individual cartridges; this remains demonstrably true today. Except of course for the 45-70, which rules supreme.

The 45-70 and the 444 Marlin - Flip a coin. Out to 50 yards "Maybe" after that 9.3x62..

That is the funniest comment I have read so far on this message board. I just about fell off my chair laughing :D
You sir have a great sense of humor!

A nice quote from another message board

"The 444, 450M and 45/70 are all excellent calibers in my book, they all have HUGE power to 200yds, enough I reckon to slap the piss out of anything on this continent and most others."

In fact, a 9.3x62 is probably going to be my winter project. Stevens 200 - $350. New barrel - $600. Richards Microfit stock - $200. Selling the take-off bits - maybe $150. Total: $1000. Not bad for a semi-custom gun

A 9.3x62 in a pushfeed? Blasphemy! :p

Good luck with the project. Tell us how it all works out.

I'd rather go with the 9.3mm with 300gr woodleigh bullets than the 444Marlin,if i want penetration or the new 250gr Accu-bond for extended shots .I must admit that i am not a big fan of a 444 but don't mind my 45-70 for up close,at all.

If the 45/70 is that good, then the 458 winchester , must be better and the 460 Weatherby even better yet? How about the 450 Rigby as well?

Isn;t the Tayor Knock down about 100 yrs old?

And isn't it based on SOLID bullets?

While the 45/70 is no slouch in it departmet, the 375 H&H is a more versatile ass kicker.;)

I don't usually enter into these "discussions" but that comment caught me off guard and I'm still laughing. I suppose next someone will talk about catching the bullets in a base ball glove!
