9.3x 74R

The 9.3 is a perfect fit in the #1. Ive had a few of them when they were around $1000 for a #1, as much as I like them I’m having trouble justifying over 2K for one.

Yes so very true.
Even slightly used the 600 dollar ones still command between 1000 and 1500.
Not a bad return on investment compared to a lot of TSX stock today.
Plus you can’t level a moose with 3000 shares of Bombardier although you can substitute those for TP!

I picked up this Fabarm Asper on the EE a few months ago. The barrels are made and regulated by Merkel, and it handles beautifully. I put a Meopta 1.7-10x42 in the MAK quick release mount that came with it and ordered a MAKnetic mount for an Aimpoint H2. Unfortunately by the time I got some ammo the range was closed due to COVID. Once I burn through some ammo I’ll start reloading for it, i’ll probably try 286 grain partitions.

Are Ruger No. 1s really that expensive?

Picked this one up but it needs regulating also has a set of 7x65r barrels in the white .they will need regulating too .Have to fix the goofy scope mounting as well.

Gary, you really need to tell us more about that rifle..... based on the style I’m guessing Austrian or German, maybe one of the Ferlach makers?

Nice to see the love for the European mid bore :)
I have a Merkel cape gun in this lovely calibre, the unfortunate thing I did wrong was not ask for it to be regulated for 286 Grainer's :(
It came regulated for Norma's 232 grain bullets Wich I cannot find any other maker of this bullet weight
Amway it shoots beautifully to 80 metre zero with the Norma vulcan 232gr.
I love the sound it makes when you dump a rounding the chamber, thump!!!
I got a boomer to make me a nice Posted 232 gr mould, but haven't poured a bullet due to other shooting activity .
I'm hoping a case full of cheerios and Boomers gas checked lead bullet will make a winter a little more fun this year!
All hail the midbores !!!!!

Whoa that scope mounting is very different! Are you able to give us more info on it?

It was built in Hope BC by a fine gent by the name of Heintz Schuflmeyer not sure of the spelling on an over and under shotgun action .Unfortunately passed away before he was able to complete the gun.I have a similar one in 45-70 he made that need some work too.

Had a Valmet in this cartridge back in the 80's. Now I have a Ruger #1. It's a good cartridge and brass and ammo are a lot easier to get now days. That first one I ended up getting brass from a friend in Spain, as I couldn't find any North American sources. Great hunting cartridge though. - dan

My Merkel is a model 240, 9.3x74R with 3" 20 gauge barrel next to it choked modified. The gun has grade 4 wood Wich is nice but not high grade to take hunting.
These guns are made to be hunted, not just admired!!
The barrel is regulated for Norma vulcan 232gr factory ammunition. It has very sturdy well built iron sights with a 2 Leaf rear sight, the drop at comb fits me perfect. The one thing I wish I had done was have scope mount fitted at the factory, but unfortunately I would to have had to buy a Leopold scope from Merkel at twice the price here in Canada, and then pay $1500 extra for the rings/mount!!!!
Anyway this is my most beautiful working hunting gun in my collection :)
I would like to have a single shot rifle built one-day, love all the pictures of these beauties

I would like to get a single shot or double in the caliber!! Would be great for moose and bisons!

I would say my 9.3x74 No.1 is my favourite rifle. I had it out for bears briefly this year. I’m extremely tempted to take it deer hunting next week.

The x74 is a good looking cartridge for what it’s worth and relatively versatile as well.

I've been wanting a 9.3x74R in a No.1 S for a bit. Cool old cartridge in a classic firearm. I think a nice double rifle chambered for that would be really cool as well for N.A.
