9.3x57 to 9.3x64 Brenneke

Not necessarily a tremendously smart/good concept. The Brenneke case is oversize and runs at highish pressure (think unbelted magnum)
Depending on action length, the safest "up" would likely be to a 9.3X62.
There isn't too much to gain; there isn't a huge amount of difference between what you can push out of a X57 case and a '06 sized one. Modern powders have compressed whatever differences you might have been able to get in times gone by. You can get a 9.3X62 for just about the same price from the same guy, so why fool around with rechambering an old, possibly tired rifle?
You can pick up one of the new "package" Stevens or Savage rifles for the almost same price, and they come in hotter calibres.

Most of the 9.3x57 rifles I've seen have been built on a 96 Mauser based action. Good actions, available in both the x62 and x57 calibers. I even have one in 6.5-06. Considering the pressure involved however, and the size of the 64 case, I think I would be making sure I was building a 9.3x64 on a more modern action (better steels and heat treating). I don't know for sure that it would fail, and I have enormous respect for the strength of Swedish steel, but I would still be looking for more modern for this project. FWIW - dan
In a 98 action it would be fine except the bolt face would have to be opened up a little.COAL is 3.370" for the 9.3 X64 and for a 3.340" for a 35 Whelan.So if a Whelan fit the 98 so will the Brenneke.Only brass available is RWS I believe?Harold
The question was about rechambering from 9.3x57 to 9.3x64. Rechambering from 9.3x57 to 9.3x64 is not the same as rebarreling to 35 whelan.
Rechambering a barrel to a longer cartridge is dependant on the existing barrel as well as the action.
The 98 action can handle it, but that does no good for the shooter if his existing barrel contour won't handle the conversion. From what I see on my 9.3x57 it looks like the increased length of the chamber would be getting uncomfortably close to the skinny part of the barrel for my liking.

Harold, not sure what you mean. And I'm sure you don't get what I meant. I thought the question was about rechambering a 9.3x57 to 9.3x64.
The 98 action is not a problem. Rechambering 9.3x57 to 9.3x62 on a 98 action is possible in a lot of cases. Rebarreling a model 98 to 9.3x64 is not a problem.
Rechambering a 9.3x57 barrel to 9.3x64 could be a problem but it depends on the actual barrel itself... there has to be enough "meat" on it to allow you to cut out a fair bit of metal both in diameter and length and still have a safe wall thickness. There is no 100% black or white answer to this question, it depends on the individual barrel. If you grasp what I'm saying, great. If not, don't worry about it.

9.3x64 is a much different case than the the x57 and x62. It's a rimless case has a base diameter of .504 (.034 of an inch thicker than the 7x57 family) with a rim slightly rebated to .492 of an inch.
Issues you would have to watch for are feeding and overall length. The other problem is reloading components for the 9.3x64. I think only RWS (maybe Norma) make brass and it is rare + expensive. It really isn't woth the effort.
