9.3x57r Update.

So buddy wants his drilling to rock and roll.
So far I can figure out after measuring the muzzle and the length of the chamber the rifle barrel is 9.3X57 rimed. Donaldson Handbook of Cartridge Conversions states to use 45-70 as parent brass, well that is a screw up, info. is wrong. Best I can figure out is that 38-55 brass should work, just a bit too short.
Any body messed around with this cartridge and what did you do to source the brass? Any help would be appreciated.

It's the "continental" name of the 360 Nitro-Express 2 1/4".

Forgot to mention the best fit is the 9.3X72R, if you can find any.

I have made scores of ?X57 brass by resizing 444 Marlin. It works in every single shot and drilling I have loaded it for.

Not too sure about 444 Marlin, head diameter being bit larger concerns me.
But I know dimensions vary in real life as opposed to published numbers, and that goes for brass and chambers, I guess I need to do more measuring.
On a good note RCBS lists dies ($180 ouch) and Bullet Barn lists proper diameter cast bullets.

The 9.3X57R have a thin flange, 0.046' for a diameter of 0.485" and base dia of 0.430", almost right on the 9.3X72R. This is the easiest swap. TEC have loaded 9.3X72R ammo, not cheap, though, but it's a simple matter of pulling the bullets / powder and trim. Bullets should not be reused for the .360 2 1/4", as they may be bigger (9.57mm vs 9.3 for the 9.3X57R).
The 444 Marlin have a rim dia of .514" and a base diameter of .470", so, it's a no go.

So dies arrived form CH4D. I got the ones for 360 Nitro Express, still no brass or proper diameter bullets, what to do? I had some new 38-55 brass so I chucked up few in a lathe and turned the rim to approx. .480 and thinned it to 50 thou. I took the cut from a base, this removed the head stamp, then I deepened the primer pocket with Sinclair primer pocket uniformer. I was concerned that primer pocket would bust through but it worked OK and left enough of brass. Now I had 5 pieces to play with but they are a bit short (like approx. 2/10 of a inch). Seated primers, filled the cases with 2F Goex (approx. 45 grains by volume) then I was going to seat some 357 pistol bullets. While looking at my cast pistol bullet collection I discovered some orphans that I cast long ago that miked out at .362, after a ahaa moment I tried to seat them, that is when I discovered that short brass and puny bullets wouldn't seat even with seater plug screwed all the way down, ah well I just pressed them in with my thumb. With 5 so loaded I headed over to buddy's place. Worked great, I shot 3 inch 3 shot group at 50 yards, left 2 for buddy to admire.

Yesterday I ordered 9.3X72R brass from Epps and some proper diameter bullets from Bullet Barn, I think they are 280 grains, bit heavier then what was used originally in this cartridge but I will test them out and see what happens.
