I just bought a zastava m98 with the 20 inch barrel mannicher full stock. I planning to reload for this one. What I'm planning on loading will be a 250gr bullet nosler and barnes. I'm hoping of velocity over 2500fts out of the 20 inch barrel . Powders I have are imr: 4064,3031, and 4350 . Anybody have a load they would like to share?

I'm about in the same boat as you are. I just picked up the same rifle through Trade Ex.

Prior to getting mine, I picked up a set of new RCBS dies plus neck sizing die, 100 Lapua unprimed brass and 200 prvi partizan bullets, 285gr SP at a local gun show. The plan for tomorrow is to use the load listings in the Nosler manual for their 286gr Partition Spitzer as a starting point and probably will go with IMR 4320. With the two bullets you plan on using the Nosler data may be of use as they have loads listed for two of your powders, IMR 3031 & IMR 4064. The Barnes manual doesn't have your powders on hand listed in their data.

I'm in the same boat too but without the Mannlicher stock. I have compiled Redding dies, 100 new Norma brass and about 60 Privi brass, 3 boxes of 270gr Speers, a box of older Norma 286gr Plastic Points and about 150 of Jethunter's 285gr cast bullets. Working on a load for the Speer's right now using RL15 and Varget.

One thing I noted with my new Norma brass is that it doesn't seem to like Federal primers. They seemed to seat "tall" so I switched to CCI BR2's.

I use BL-C2.

Mr Wagner himself uses RL-15, last time I chatted with him.

2500 with 250's should be no problem, even with the 20" bbl. Actually, I'd fully expect to be able to do that with a 9.3 x 57, to be honest.

Your mention of Norma bullets brought a small detail to mind. In my reloading room I have an old Norma bullet & brass display board. On it they have four bullets shown for the 9.3, two weighing 232gr and two at 286gr. The small detail or difference between these and other jacketed 9.3 bullets made by other manufacturers is the diameter. Most are listed as being 0.366" but those by Norma are 0.365".

RL15 and H380 when you have to 'pack it up"... but really a lot of powders work well in the X62...

Johnn,

Bullets vary between .365, .3655 and .366 ... those .365 must have been the 'ole Tri-Clad bullets...

If I can locate some at a gun show,:) I may pick them up.
.365" is what Norma actually has marked on the display board as being the diameter of the four bullets.

The Norma display board is the one above the little window front & centre.

Oh, and the same diameter is stated by Norma in their old Gunbug's Guide reloading manual.

I've been using RL 15 in mine... 61 grs gave me 2594 fps out of a 23 5/8" barrel, 250 gr. Accubond. I've bumped the load up by half a grain but haven't had a chance to run them over a chronograph. Those loads aren't max in my rifle, but the usual warning labels apply. Of the powders you've mentioned, 4064 is the closest in burn rate to RL 15... 4350 is a tad on the slow side for optimum results.

I'm going to have to find a substitute for RL 15 pretty soon... I'm down to my last pound and nobody seems to have it. The gunshop I tried didn't have any 4064 either.

On one of Teds previous visits to the island he stopped in and did up a few boxes of reloads, one of which was for his 9.3x62 and RL-15 was the powder he used. I just finished cranking out a box, for the ".366 Wagner" using IMR 4320. Think I'll do another box now, using IMR 4064.

I found a load which seems very fast and powerful of h380 63.3gr @2670fts which is max out of a 24 inch barrel I was thinking to maybe load 61 gr of h380 with a 250gr bullet. Does that sound normal or is it to hot?

Well guys Ted also turned me on to the 366 Wagner and I bought a CZ 550 FS.......I use the 270 gn Speer hot core semi spritzer with 4895 and a CCI 200 in formed R-P 30-06 cases for a chronographed 2625 fps. I hunted and harvested an Atlantic walrus with this gun and load. He was impressed and the bullet was picture, poster, perfect...mushroomed to over .75 dia and weighed 187 grns, some brain and hide in there. Range was a whopping 40-50 mtrs but from a boat on Hudson's bay is no small feat let me tell you. I personally think this is an outstanding cartridge for all NA game and most game world wide excluding the pachyderms.

Start your 4895 load about 52 grns and work up..........I won't publish where my load ended up, but it is safe in my rifle and gets me over 2600 fps.

Well I tried my first load for my 9.3x62 , approx 56 gr of imr 4064 and my grouping was approx 4-5inches at approx 100yards with a 4x power scope. Pretty disappointing to see this result. I know it was not my shot but rather the load. I think at the next gunshow I will just look for reloader 15 and hopefully get better results. I also have a possibility to use h4895 powder, is that a decent powder for this cal? If not i think I will wait until I buy reloader 15. It seems like all the shops around are sold out on the good powder.

You may have already done it but if not, perhaps give your rifle a good check over. I'm assuming you probably have a scope on it?? If so, check mounts etc and varify the condition of the scope. I got my two boxes of ammo loaded up, test loads with IMR 4320 and the other box with IMR 4064. Haven't got to the range yet but should be doing so within the next few days. I have the same rifle as you and will post range results.
