Interested in getting something in this caliber. I can't figure out if the x62 or x64 is the one I need. Is there much difference, and is one more available, components? Are the Huskys on tradex decent? Alot of them seem to be cracked in the tang area. I've read the x64 can reach @ 2600 fps and the x62 @ 2300 or so. I tried search, sorry.

The 9.3X62 is way more ommon than the X64 and brass can be made from .35 whelen if you're in a pinch. The 64 does get more velocity, you wll probably need to have a gunsmith build the 64. There arent alot of them around. The bolt face is between the '06 and the magnum, so you need an '06 sized action and open the boltface. Alot of 9.3X62 rifles could be modified, work the bolt and rechamber. It must not be a mauser 96, so alot of 9.3X57's are out. I'm considering converting my x62 to a x64, but havn't done it yet. I think the 9.3x64 is a great cartridge.
I have a x62 in CZ 550 and a 270gr speer with 60gr of varget shoots clover leaf's at 100m
can not go wrong with either but have to wonder how much practical velocity you will get more from a case that's only 2mm longer?

The 9.3x62 Mauser is an excellent round as alot of ex-pats in Africa can attest to this
! Do not buy a tradex 96 in 9.3 if you want to convert to the X64. The tradex guns do have alot of splits behind the action, but this is easily fixed with a steel rod, drill and some epoxy.Pm me and I will explain as I fix these regularly and haven't had one come back!! The only gun I know is available in the 9.3X64 is the Sako model 85. If you give Anthony a call at Tradex he can probably hook you up with whatever your looking for as he has access to supplies we don't, great guy to deal with and willing to go the extra mile! He is searching for me a working mans Cape gun at the moment, and has yet to give up on locating a new manufacturer to build me one! Dale in T-Bay

286gr are in the 2300 FPS range with a 23" barrel
250gr are in the 2500 FPS range with a 23" barrel
Those are #'s in mine so fare in the testing I have done.

9.3x62 for sure. Much easier to find brass and you can get proper 9.3x62 headstamped Lapua brass from Peter Dobson (Hirsch Precision) who is a board sponsor. Between Peter, Anthony at TradeEx, Ted (Why Not?) and some odds and ends from Brownells I took a Husky 98 and re did it completely. Very happy with it but need to shoot something with it.

I just finished my 9.3 x 64mm build on a 98 Mauser action, and it works superbly. I would say that the 9.3 x 62 would be easier to build, and the brass and ammo is far more easily obtained. I have to make my 64 brass from .338 Win Mag brass by removing the belt and turning down the rim and extractor groove. No problem for me, since I have a mini-lathe, but it would be a lot of work for someone who didn't have the necessary tools. And forget about finding factory ammo for the 64.
That being said, I love the 64, and the extra performance I get over the 62 is considerable, but the 62 would easily do everything that the 64 would do within ethical hunting ranges. I think I may just build a 62 for my next big project.
