9.3x62 Load

Hi folks,

Looking for the best 9.3x62 load for hunting in Canada.

Thining likely the 250 gr Nosler Accubond?

- Be good for Deer (Whitetail and Mule)
- Hold up well enough for moose
- Expand for black bear in the woods
- And perhaps enough deep penetration for grizz defense if you ever needed it.
- Also has a bit better MV and a lot better BC than the 286gr bullets such as Norma Oryx


What do my fellow GunNutz advise? Is the Nosler Custom Accubond easily available in Canada? Would people suggest something else?

I haven't found that there's a huge difference in trajectory between the 286's and the 250's, if they're both loaded to top levels. I'm starting to think I should stick to 285's just for the sake of simplicity.

That said, by all accounts the Accubond is a good all-round bullet.

It's more the BC I like the sound of for the accubond. And a little more MV doesn't seem to hurt.

Do you know if you can order Nosler Trophy Grade in Canada?

I used to run Hornady 286gr but had bullet blowup on moose shoulder blades so use same weight Partitions now with RE#15.

Questionabe SD and more designed for those who want to hunt chamois or roe and you don't have a smaller rifle...

My normal 9.3x62 load is 270 gr speer with 64gr BLC, have also used same bullet with 58gr varget,
Am currently working up 250gr accubond loads with my new Sako, Had a husky before,
62gr CFE223 is giving me 2510 fps, 61gr gave 2455fps, no pressure signs and still reasonable to shot, have 63 and 64 gr to try.
the 270 speer is doing 2514fps with 64gr BLC, this is max in my rifle, thinking of dropping load back a bit.

I had one come apart on a whitetail doe at 2000 fps. The core went clear through but the jacket shattered and was found in many pieces.

Lapua Brass, Lapua 285gr Mega, 63gr H414 (max load), CCI 200's, COL 3.236". 5 shot 0.46" group at 100yds (avg 5 shot vel was 2250fps with chrony 6ft from muzzle), 1.45" group 200yds. Haven't been able to try 300yds yet. Rifle CZ 550 FS

I shot my elk this fall at 50yds with my handload for S202 rifle and 250gr NAB+Varget 58.3 gr for ~2500f/s, elk shot at right shoulder and bullet found under hide just in front of left rear leg- 80% retention and bull only turned around and tipped over. Got pic of bullet somewhere if interested.

Good bullet but a bit slow and loopy in trajectory terms. I do like the 286gr Norma oryx and lament the passing of the 286gr RWS T-Mantel...

I run the Noslers (partitions) at 2,450 or thereabouts. Zeroed at 175 yds, that puts me 6" low at 250 and a foot low at 300.

By comparison, the Accubonds at 2,625, zeroed at 200 yds, are 3.5" low at 250 and 9" low at 300.

I wouldn't run them at top 9.3x62 velocities, I had it up to 2400 fps in the 9.3x57 but it shot way high so backed off to 2000 for it to shoot to the sights.

All that said, the core has substantial weight and it went clear through and obviously the deer expired, with one shot.

That must have been the Vulcan PPC bullet then ?

This should have been a Vulcan - I have never heard of Oryx coming apart.
