9.3x62 loading troubles

Hi I am trying to load some 270 sierras for a 9.3 on a tika T3.Trouble is the sierras have to fat of an ogive,can"t seat them deap enough to be able to chamber .Has anyone else had this issue with sierras before ? tks robin
 
Ken Waters pet Loads says 3.28 OAL for that bullet with RE15/55gr/2252 fps best accuracy.............52gr/IMR 3031/2229 fps very accurate...........the 270 Speer will need to be seated to fit the magazine box so you may need to back off the reloads a grain or two .........Harold

sounds like the bullet is being seated into the rifling .

you need to measure the chamber with a once fired brass and the bullet your trying to load to figure out your over all length with that bullet and your chamber .

the other that may be happening is , your doing something funny when resizing your brass and it is the brass that isn't fitting , not the bullet .

after you resize your brass , just before you seat the bullet , try to chamber the brass and see if you have the same problem .

another thought here too , are you using brass that has already been fired in your rifle ?

i've read that there are a few variations on the shoulder angle , some of the chamber drawings i have seen have appeared to back this up .
if your using brand new brass with one shoulder variation , and your rifle has a different shoulder variation , that could cause the round not to chamber too .
 
I'm pretty sure you're meaning the 270gr Speer, unless you've got some real old Sierra's I don't know about and aren't on their site.

If having to seat them farther in is eating into your powder charge, try switching to BL-C2 powder. I use it exclusively in my x57 and x62 (with the 270 Speer or other 286's) and I'm getting 2300+ fps from this combination in my x57 and more (of course) in my x62. VERY good accuracy too.

Can't help on the seating problem - I've not encountered this on either of my rifles.

Hi newer gun tika T3,new hornady brass,also new redding dies.I was convinced it was the dies.I havent shot yet so no fired cases to try.A empty case chambers fine.I seat them to the oal in the siera book,they fit clip but bolt is about 1/4'' from closeing.I thought I was setting die wrong.Followed directions with ram up screw die till touches loosen one turn?I did this from 1/2 turn off to 2 1/2 off got it so I didn;t crush case ,as said brand new hornady brass ,I always resize,debured inside thinking cases had a wire edge.When I get them seated deep enough to chamber I'm probaly 5/16 of inch below book stated oal,they just look goofy.I'm sure had this problem before with siera I switched to a bullet with a sharper ogive and worked fine .tks for any info robin

also it is a 270 speer ,those new boxes have me confused

another thing is when the die is screwed out that far the seater plug is totaly bottomed out?It doesnt make any sense to me,I've been reloading for years with 223- 50 alaskan,I had a 9.3x 74 that was fine,and numerous botlle neck and straight cases,but I must be missing something simple?

Sounds like you have very little free bore.I shoot 286 Nosler Pat. and Branes T.S. my Husky with no problems.Have also shot the Speer 270 gr with no trouble at all.If you can chamber just the brass I would look at the rifle.

Free bore would make sense .Thats why I bought new instead of a mil surplus I didn"t think a guy would have any issues.One other time I had problem with speer bullets doing the same thing it was either a mod 70 7/08 or a blaser 300wsm.Had same issues with seating depth .I think I'll try to find some different bullets before I get to carried away.Glad I only bought 3 boxes of the speers.tks robin

My Husky is a crown grade model 98 not the mil surplus.The 9.3x62 was used in Afirca alot I believe with a 286 gr round nose so a rifle should have some free bore.I have had the best luck with the Nosler Partition 286 gr.

This may seem too simple but measure the bullets diameter and make sure you have the right size. If you do, take and cut a small slit in the neck of a case with no primer or powder, set a bullet in the mouth and push it into the gun till the bolt closes. Carefully remove and measure the OAL. If if is too short for what you want, switch bullets. Each maker has its own ideas on freebore. My Tikka in 338 Federal has a fairly short throat too, which I actually like.

I just measured this thing in order to chamber a round the oal is 3.040 .Which is way short.Even at that oal there is resistence to close the bolt.Any deaper I think the bullet would fall in.I'm going to go shoot these so I have some fired cases to measure with and maybe find some different bullets in town.tks


also measured bullets to make sure wernt labeled wrong
 
I have a CZ and I can seat the bullets out as far as I can and have never been able to touch the rifling with 270 Speers or 286s.
