9.3x62 'plans' in motion

Post it up when you find one. I joined the 9.3x62 club last year with a Zastavia - accurate and mild recoiling. I'm going to take it out for spring bear this year.

Ideally, the Mannlicher full length stock design is the #1 consideration. Zavasta, CZ, Brno, Husqvarna, I'm open to what's available.

Welcome to the club, Johnn (well, wait, you're still a prospect, aren't you :p ).

Sadly, forget about getting a HVA 1600 H, as they were not made in that caliber. Unless you find a custom one, you will have to forget HVA.

Johnn, I know you have your heart set on something in the Mannlicher style, but if you get the chance to handle a Sako Black Bear in 9.3x62 you should.
They are a light, compact little shooter and they handle beautifully. They'll never be as gorgeous as something with a nice Mannlicher stock, but they are
still worth considering if you live on the Wet Coast. :)

If you do abandon the FS 9.3, my LGS has a CZ 550 in 9.3X62 on the rack... PM is interested.

You can also extend the stock to create your own FS... Then you can use a unique wood such as Cocobolo or Alto Preto for a truly unique FS... With the standard long barrel, this may require a barrel "bob" to maintain a pleasing proportion. I have done many FS "extensions."

:)The 'plans' are in motion for my next rifle. I've decided on getting a 9.3x62 and at the gun show in Duncan this passed weekend, the ball started rolling.:D I happened on a package deal of 200 bullets, 285grSP. a new three die set of RCBS dies, one of which is a neck sizer and, 100 new unprimed Lapua brass. Next on the agenda, see what different brands are available in a Bavarian/Mannlicher style carbine.

what about an RX HELIX

I decide on a round that sounds interesting, eventually buy loaded rounds, brass and even dies at various gun shows...and then d%ck around for several years before actually finding the "right" gun to use the stuff.

I just got a .300H&H Ruger#1 a couple of months ago...I've had the dies/ammo since about 2003!

Johnn, I also picked up a Zastava fullstock in .9.3x62 from Gagnon's in Oshawa recently. I'm sure the special sale price is no longer available, but now that I have had a chance to examine and play with it, I would be comfortable saying that these are a decent value at the regular price. TradeEx shows at least one on their website. It's been there for a long time marked "on hold", otherwise I would have bought it months ago (and missed the super deal I got on mine!). It has much nicer, darker wood than mine, and is apparently no longer on hold. You should check it out.

:(I was disappointed when that first deal went south, but, because of that, I've decided to take a good look at what's all available in the style I want. Part of that look is solicitating input from those of you in the know and as such, I really appreciate your comments and opinions. I have one full wood model that I purchased from the estate of a friend. It's a Sako A III in .270 Win.

Nothing 'wrong' with that style of rifle in one of the more traditional North American calibres and years ago I had one similar in 338WM. However, to me, a more European calibre seems to be a 'better fit'.
My main focus ;)at 'present' has been along the lines of the Zavasta and Sako,;)but I'm still 'looking'. Items like the RX HELIX, in a full wood configuration might be a little off center for a stick in the mud like me:redface:. Looks a little too space age for me.
Anyway, thanks again guys and keep'em coming. New or used as long as in top condition:).

It is an interesting cartridge that I decided a couple years back should come to Kingston and play. I bought an old Mauser, then a prettier one came up and I bought it, then a prettier one still came up, with a Leupold scope, and I bought it. THEN a Tikka T3 stainless was posted here and I made a swap for it. (turned out to be a three-way swap). The three Mausers all went to good homes and the Tikka is waiting for a day that is not minus forty to go out to the range.

The first three all liked H4895 powder and the PRVI 285 grain bullets.

Good to hear:). In the package of 'goodies' I acquired at the local gun show recently, that's what the 200 bullets I got are.

There's a whole group of guys out there with more savvy than I have, and Ted is one of them, at the head of the line.;)Might help explain why I've purchased a couple of rifles from him. We, with a number of local CGNers, had a good lunch and chat session when he was here. Look forward to the next:).

That looks like pretty much the same cast of characters I met in Duncan at the Tim Horton's in May 2012. Except for Ted of course......

Fudds!

Judging from the pics of Ted dragging that bear I wouldn't say that to his face though :):):)

He's a great guy and this last trip is about the 4th time he's stopped in while visiting in this area.

:)I look forward to the next.

He'd be a hard man to keep up to today.

Can you imagine even trying to do so, a few years back??

Let's not forget the proper Canadian designation for the 9.3x62, the quintessential mountain man's cartridge of the great white north, the .366 Wagner! :)
