I'm thinking of getting Russian made bolt action rifle "Los 9"; it is available in 30-06 and 9.3x64. Is 9.3x64 obtainable in Canada?

I think the flurry of replies gives you a pretty good idea.

It might also give you an indication of how easy it's going to be to get parts if the rifle ever needs repair.

9.3x64 is hard (if not impossible) to find in loaded ammo in Canada. Even reloading components are hard to find.

If you're hard-up for a 9.3 calibre rifle, why not check out trade ex, with their numerous 9.3x57 and x62 rifles. Ammunition may be available loaded, but failing that, brass is easy to produce (use 8x57 and .30-06 brass, respectively). Bullets are also available from trade ex.

Like any of the European cartridges, it may be hard to "find" but easy to order. Just don't count of buying one box at a time at Canadian tire, and realize that you will pay a premium price for premium ammo. Any good gunshop can order ammo from the European manufacturers - Norma, RWS, Lapua, etc.

This is true, but it will come in a case, and most fellows don't want to shell out for a case of ammo and wait up to a year for it to arrive. FS

Thanks guys! I've got the idea. version of the rifle in 30-06 sounds much more attractive, but i will check with hirschprecision and prophet river

I just chuck .338 Win Mag brass in my mini-lathe and turn off the belt and reduce the rim and groove diameter. Then I lube it and run it through a full-length sizer die and I have perfect cartridges for my 9.3 x 64mm. It takes some time, but I have a few hundred cartridges for less than I would have had to pay for two boxes of factory ammo. It does help to have the mini-lathe, though....

Erik.
