A unique round suitable for the No.1 rifle. Flanged so it works well with the extractor. Decided to try the 320gr Woodleigh bullet. Worked up a load to achieve maximum speed and acceptable accuracy at safe pressure. The 320gr will likely provide way better bone-smashing penetration than the 286gr NP.
Results as shown (1 fouling shot then 2 shots touching
). Using a generous charge of powder there are no apparent signs of excessive pressure. It's quite a strong action. The 1:10 twist rate is suited for this heavy-for-caliber bullet. Muzzle energy is 4100 ft-lbs which is about equal to the 300gr 375 H&H. Loaded for Bear.
