A unique round suitable for the No.1 rifle. Flanged so it works well with the extractor. Decided to try the 320gr Woodleigh bullet. Worked up a load to achieve maximum speed and acceptable accuracy at safe pressure. The 320gr will likely provide way better bone-smashing penetration than the 286gr NP.

Results as shown (1 fouling shot then 2 shots touching ;)). Using a generous charge of powder there are no apparent signs of excessive pressure. It's quite a strong action. The 1:10 twist rate is suited for this heavy-for-caliber bullet. Muzzle energy is 4100 ft-lbs which is about equal to the 300gr 375 H&H. Loaded for Bear.

So now we're down to 2 shot groups? Most people shoot 3 shot groups as a rule, with 5 actually providing usable information. It's got potential...maybe. Not sure what's to be accomplished by launching bullets 160 FPS over the recommended impact speed. Fairly certain you won't have a shot presented at close range?

Chrony positioned about 5 yards away from the muzzle so add 16 fps = 2380 fps at the muzzle. Bullet speed drops below 2200 fps beyond 75 yards, the upper limit of the recommended impact speed range. Being a fairly heavy bonded core bullet I wouldn't expect it to blow up on a real close range shot, say at half that range.
