I do a lot of hiking both with my job and for pleasure in the bush. I have loved the idea of a mares leg for bear defense, and have used my rossi ranch hand in 44 mag since they first landed. It is nice, but just barely too long to be convenient to carry in my leg holster. I heard about the Chiappa 9" version and think this could solve my problem provided it comes in NR. Is anyone currently working to get this rifle into Canada?

I don't think the 12 inch version is much over the 26 inch mark. I thought these all got classed as pistols in the US due to the lack of a full stock but were rated NR rifles here because of the 26 inch OAL rule?

All of the mares legs are considered a pistol in the states so it would make sense that they are categorized this way of their websites. Apparently down there you actually need a permit or stamp (whatever they call it) to own a SBR (short barrel rifle) so it's a "pistol"=no permit required. Hickok45 on YouTube did a review on the mares leg and talks a bit about how these little guns are non restriced in canada and how we are able to put on full length stocks and not change the classification of the rifle. Now the 9" version...that might be a different story, however I'm not sure if they are up here yet or if there is an official classification on them yet.
 
The 12 inch versions are NR with a 24" OAL. This is because they were made that length from factory and cannot be operated properly with one hand.
