9 mm Ammo shortage

While we are on the subject...and not to hijack, but what presses are going to crank out the 9mm and possibly rifle rounds as well on a larger scale.
I realize I won't crank out 308 by the thou...but 9mm is a different story.
It would seem to be a wise investment to spend my winter months reloading if I can spend a few hours and get a few thousand ronds, but what is a realistic time frame for 1000 rnds of 9mm including set up
I am looking for a realistic time frame...not the green lantern speed competition reloading record. I will be purchasing a set up at some point when I decide on the right rig..I hope

Probably the best (and most expensive unfortunately) system to crank out a high volume of ammo in a relatively short time span is my set up.

I use a Dillon 1050 equiped with a Mr.BulletFeeder and I use the Dillon RF100 primer tube filler.

Starting with tumbled and sorted cases, I should be able to load 1200-1500 rounds an hour. Blowing out the shellplate and primer slide with compressed air periodicly tend to keep the downtime to a minimum.

The built in primer pocket swager takes care of the odd tight or crimped primer pocket.

The RF100 primer tube filler means I don't need to prepare 10-20 primer tubes before I sit down to load.

The Mr.BulletFeeder reduces the arm strain and hand cramping from loading bullets by hand.

Since I now have two hands free for the crank, I can reduce the stress and strain on my right elbow and shoulder. (Although the P/W Autodrive kit is calling my name.:))

The downside is that even buying used, it's around $3k to get to where I am now. The upside is the equipment doesn't lose value and I'll have it long enough to more than justify the cost.

If u guys have some truck drivers for friends that waiting a load here for a day or two, they can do some serious shopping which will bring reloading cost down to a 15-17 bucks for hundred.
In le Baron mississauga primers are 23-25 for a 1K.
Aim Projectiles in Hamilton are selling 1000 9mm copper plated bullets for 80 bucks, tax inc.
powder is in a 22-23 to 30 bucks range everywhere you go.
you can easily load 1000 pieces with a pound and a brass you probably have already enough to start loading.
that will bring a cost to about 150 for a 1K.

My dillon 550 cost me about 800 all set up for one caliber including a scale and a tumbler. Will load 250-300/ hour taking my time and using cleaned and sorted brass. Including tumbling, inspecting, set up and loading i would say 1000 rounds would take me4-5 hours all told.

I reload 9mm with cast and copper wash projectiles.

My cost on reloding 9mm (with commercial cast bullets) is around $120 per 1000. With copper wash it goes up about $40 per 1000.

When I was still doing it single stage it would take me about 12hrs to do 1000 rnds. That is including prep, resizing, sorting, priming and weighing (I actually made a dip to speed up the process) each load.

With my dillion SDB I can do 1000 rnds in about 2 to 2&1/2 hrs.

If you are only doing one calibre, and want a progressive just to get started, I reccomend a Lee 1000. It comes with everything you need to load (except primers, powder and bullets) for under $300.

Cheers!

Here's what I paid (rough estimate with tax):

- HP38 smokeless powder, 1 lb: $33 or 1 lb of Unique: $31.50
- 500 count 115 gr. FMJ 9mm bullets: $35
- 1000 count small pistol primers: $37
- 1000 count "once fired" brass from EE: $37.50

Reloading equipment:

- Lee 9mm Carbide Dies from EE: $40
- Lee 50th anniversary reloading kit from Cabela's: $125 (bought it last year, it used to be $99 before tax/shipping. Kit includes pretty much everything you need, besides the dies).
- Reloading manual: $25
- Tons of patience: PRICELESS

I pay about $16 for 115gr. AE 9mm in southern Ont. Sad thing is that I already have a press (reload .40 right now) but money is a little tight so I can't afford the dies and components just yet but thats my first order of business once I get some spare cash :D

You know I read this post and thought heck....

I am certain I have a spare set of 9mm dies in my room and thousands of cases.

Went back to find them to make sure that I had them before I offered them.

Sadly............before putting forth the offer I found the thread in which you indicate your support of the LIBERAL party.

I guess I do need that spare die set after all..........you never know when you will need one and all that.

This is probably The Gold Seal loading set up (it's what some commercial reloaders use) and I'm jealous of anyone who has "just" the press, never mind the goodies that make it even easier, if I can ever afford it I'll be on it like a fat kid on a smartie. For reasonable speed and the capability to reload rifle rounds (for a beginning reloader, with a budget) take a look at the Lee four station turret press (the new one). It won't crank out the volume that a progressive will, but if you put in a total of about three or four hours a week, you'll never be out of ammo and you'll have paid a couple of hundred for the press instead of a few thousand.

so why would you post about it?

so why would you post about it?

Being a very caring and giving person (as should be obvious from my original intentions in this instance) I thought that I should save anyone else with similar giving motives the benefit of my experience. It was really just happenstance that I had logged off and upon logging in checked on that post and had a glimpse into shall we say "the real you".

Not everyone would have the gods smile upon them like me..............

Just keeping up the tradition that "Storm is a swell guy" image and all that.

NAA.

Try calling Wolf Hofmann at Wolf Bullets, he sells commercial reloaded (TMJ) ammo at a great price. I buy 1000 .40SW 180grs cases for 250$ shipped to my door. I would immagine 9mm being cheaper thant that
