9mm load recipe...

Try to load 3.7 gr of Titegroup for an overall length of 1.10.
It will be around 135 pf...
You might have to change the recoil spring in your Shadow so a downloaded power factor ammo will work the slide correctly.
Good luck,
Robert

I don't wish to rain on your parade, but the best thing you can do is invest in a good handloading manual like Hornady and go from there.

Research your own loads and build them up from a safe starting point. I would not offer handloading advice to anyone online and even less, accept recipes from total strangers over the internet.

Loading your own ammunition isn't very difficult, but it is an area that can turn to tragedy with a few misappropriate words from others who may or may not know exactly what they're doing.

You will learn much more by your own experience and mistakes than you can read about on any forum.

easy, it is all good points. However, none of the manuals I saw have data for 9mm 147gr TMJ, not to mentioned selection of powders. You have to experiment yourself, but you have to start from somewhere...

Since I mentioned the Hornady handbook, it indeed does have listings for 147 grain FMJs and none of the powders suggested in the above posts are used in this handbook. Exactly my point. Meaning that though the powders suggested above may work with the 147 FMJs, Hornady attained better results with the ones they do list in their book.

I agree you have to start somewhere. In my opinion, the best place to start is a good handloading handbook.

Not necessarily, it only means that they only tested those powders. Not to mention that FMJ is not the same as TMJ. Besides, OP is looking for the load he could use in action sports, which is not exactly primary goal of most of the loading manuals. Yet there is number of well known popular recipes used in this sport not included in any books...

There are IPSC and IDPA shooters on this forum that have put tens upon tens of thousands of production weight loads through their Shadows - loads that in a lot of cases don't even make some manuals minimum load....I think you will be fine engaging some of the shooters on here for their pet loads...ymmv.

My load with tight group is 3.4 gr. Loaded with a 147 gr. Montana gold tmj, federal sm pistol primer, mixed brass, and an OAL of 1.110"

Another is VV N320 at 3.5 gr., 147 FMJ, federal sm. Pistol primer, mixed brass, and an OAL of 1.110"

Obviously you will want to run all of these over a chrony to see if they work for you.

I have used 3.7 gr of Unique under the 147 gr AIM bullet in my CZ 85 Combat. PF 129, Standard Deviation 9. This load should work equally well in your Shadow.

Sorry nothing with Titegroup yet.

Take Care

Bob

I prefer 124 grain bullets and I am planning to start IPSC. My Shadow has a #13 mainspring but other than that it is stock.

Now to put Easy at ease, I refered to Ken Water's book and he has down a load of 7 grain of HS-6 using a 125 grain Sierra FMJ as being the only load he gave a high rating to.
The Sierra Manual lists 4.6 grains of American Select as being the best load with the same 125 grain bullet.

Now are these reasonable loads for IPSC or are they a little heavy in terms of recoil. Obviously I want a load that will work 100% with the least amount recoil.

Any other suggestions ?

The following web page is for Hodgdon. Follow the link on the page to the reloading data for your 9mm ammunition.

www.hodgdon.com

I hope this helps.

A fast miss is just as good as a fast re-holster = no points for either

For the least amount of perceived recoil the rule of thumb for non-compensated pistols is a combination of heaviest bullet with the fastest powder. HS6 and American Select are relatively slow powders and 124 grain is a medium weight bullet for 9mm. I would recommend finding a load using 147 grain bullets with a fast powder such as Titegroup.

3.2 of Tite Group will get you there with just about 147 grain bullet. Right now I'm using Frontiers from Marstar. The Zero is my go-to bullet when I'm loading for major matches. AIM has had problems but I understand they've made some progress in their quality. Make sure to load some dummies in different lengths for each bullet brand, to check your chamber. CZ's often have short chambers so load accordingly. 1.100 is the normal length but I go 1.080 with the Frontiers for best feeding and to stay off the lands.
