90 grs. and the .223 Rem

Unfortunately I had to work and could not get time off (legitmately) for the Farky. It is the first match I have missed in about 7 years.

I have no doubt that guys are getting the 90's to perform well at short distances (The Farky is only a 500M match) but for my money, and because I simply have an intangible fascination for the caliber, I will commit to making the 6mm 115 Bergers do cool things for the short term. As we have discussed before, were it up to me, I would restrict F-Class to no larger than 6.5mm, thus creating an even greater impetus for development of greasy smaller bullets. We are long overdue for a > than.600 G1BC 6mm bullet, and I think it can happen without too much effort.

Matrix makes a very cool 117 grain and Marshall sent me the new and improved version to try (likely going to shoot the V-Bulls with them).

I keep hoping that the military will change the NATO standard round to something more conducive to ultra long range accuracy so that we can evolve past the 223/308 rut in both TR and FTR. I guess since I have not been acclaimed ruler of the free world yet, that is not something to count on anytime soon.

Cheers,

This restriction will happen all by itself IF the bullet makers comes up with new product.

The 223 in F TR was a non issue until the current crop of 90's came out. This has only been a few years.

The 7mm not worth the recoil when a 6.5-284 would equal UNTIL the new 180's came out. Again, only a few years and now going crazy...for better or worse.

Who knows what 30cal gems are in the R&D stages now that Uncle Sam wants the 300WM in mass use? OUCH.

The 338 lineup will grow steadily as the Lapua becomes a common NATO case.

If they keep the 223 assualt rifle, what new powders and bullets are already being tested?

I think the real unsung cal is the 25 and there is little reason why we can't come up with high BC 'light' bullets.

Then there is the 27cal which should fit into the niche between the 6.5 and 7mm. Likely equal the present 7mm 180's with way less recoil.

If they build it, we will shoot it.
