Hi guys, I bought this 91/30 sniper off a fellow member a few years back and never fired it until today. My eyes are definitely NOT what they used to be but holy smokes I am impressed with the old pea shooter. It's a 1943 dressed in a very ###y laminate stock. I seriously doubt it's an original sniper but I do know that it is 100% numbers matching with no refurb marks. The rifle looks like new and so does the bore. There's no rust or pitting, stock dings etc and the rifle is like new out of the crate in all respects. Thought I'd post a few pics plus a 100 yard 5 shot group fired by a a shaky old guy who was shooting pistols and rifles for a couple hours prior to firing this group. I'd love to see what this would do in the hands of a good shooter! Anyone else been shooting 91/30's/ i'd love to see what your results were. The ammo I used was Chinese Milsurp purchased from Canada Ammo.

Good shooting. I have so far gotten several inch and a half 5-shot groups from mine with factory loads (PRVI and Hornady. Keeping the corrosive stuff out of this one). Because I found I really love Mosins I decided to start hand loading. There's a fresh batch of rounds I just cooked up waiting for the range in a few days. I'm excited to see what I can get out of this rifle. For six hundred bucks, I can definitely live with 1.5 MOA accuracy out of the cosmoline.

That's a really gorgeous stock too.

Looks good. I've got a rough short barrelled bubba Mosin that will put 3 rounds in 1 1/2" @100M. Reloads with Lapua brass though. Handloads should really tighten yours up.

I'm real nterested in seeing how you do with handloads Levon! I do reload for my other 7.62 x 54R's, so I'll have to try to work up a a pet load for this one. I also have a very fine fine SVT40 sniper that shoots phenomenal. Every time I take it for a range outing , I wonder why everyone says there were accuracy issues with these rifles. I only have fired it 4 times, but based on what I saw so far, it shoots as good, if not better than this Mosin sniper and the recoil is substantially less with that 6 port muzzlebrake. After having it sitting in my gunroom for quite a few years I wish I would have started shooting it sooner. It's one of my favorite guns now! Brapjack, grab one when you get chance. You won't be sorry!

I have a Type 53 that is mounted in a Mosin Negant stock. The Chinese stock was unuasable and the fellow who sold it to me had a worn out m44 . so he installed the Chinese mechanisum in the Russiian stock. He stripped it and added 2 coats of oil and waxeve yet to check it for accuracy as I usually shoot in a canyon outside of town, as the range is a fair piece off. You have inspired me to check out the accuracy of it. By the way, you date your self with the statement about Yards as opposed to meters. I always get confused when I visit home, it was yards when we moved down here and although I work in MM and CM meters and kliks don't come naturally.

LOL I guess I do date myself. I always refer to myself as "bylingual on measurement" as the big change hapened while I was still in elementary school in the mid 70's. I still prefer standard measurement but am fluent in both. I am sure you'll be pleasantly surprised with your Type 53! Be prepared for quite the muzzle blast though!

With a proper rear bag your groups will be cut to half that.I have two buddies with 91/30 snipers that both cut 1/2" with PRC ball. My Hexes with irons will shoot 1.25" with irons off the bench.Nice gun BTW........Harold

Thanks for the advice Harold. I'll give that rear bag a try next trip. Yup! that is the Hollow Log range Groverino! I'll be taking a couple boxes of handloads next trip as well to try.
