Hi All,
I'm new to these forums, fairly new to shooting so please don't rip me to hard..

I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and was wondering if anyone know's if there is anywhere you can touch and feel custom Ruger 10/22 Stocks and Barrels. also if not where can I buy online.. I know I've read people say Boyd's Stocks but what about barrels?

Thanks all

Jeff

Tactical solutions barrels are nice, I enjoy mine. Very light, you can get em at wanstalls, my next build will have a green mtn on it, can't remember where but there is a shop somewhere in BC you can order them from. Boyd stocks are nice. I'm a big fan of the hogue rubber overmold stock as well. I've never had anything dlask but people say good things about them, though I'm not a fan of barrels any shorter than 16.5". Looks a little silly I think, but to each his own.

hoytcanon, how do those uber-short barrels shoot for you compared to longer ones?

The 8" barrels compare very well to 16" barrels out to 50 yards and then accuracy begins to decrease marginally.... they still shoot 1.5-2.0 MOA groups at 100, which many would be thrilled with. The 12.5" barrels compare very well to 16" and 18" barrels out to 100 yards before we note any separation in accuracy... the exception has been the 10.5" barrels of the first pair pictured... they are equally accurate to our 16" VQ, 18" GM and 20" Kidd barrels all the way out to 150 yards, with their individually preferred ammos... primarily SK ST+, Wolf MT & CCI SV. But accuracy aside the beauty of the SBR is in the handling... a pure joy to wield and shoot... we also hunt (eyeballs) with these guns.

I have a Green Mountain barrel, and I like it. (16", I think). I think I'm going to order a Whistlepig barrel to try. I was thinking of a Dlask, but they only seem to have the shortys right now. I'll probablt get their receiver. They seem to have gotten pretty pricey, but we don't have the options that they do in the U.S.

I just about ordered a whistle pig, but chickened out. They told me in an e mail that they ship them with no serial numbers and call them aluminum rods. No problems across the border so far, but they did say there is a first for everything. Let us know if you order one up how it works for you. They do make some nice looking barrels.

You hunt eyeballs.....? Is is there a draw for that season?

Not with a small game permit... All sorts of eyeballs... Eyeballs in grouse heads, eyeballs in rabbit heads, eyeballs in raccoon and fox heads, eyeballs in squirrel heads... Etc... Etc... The carcasses are just a by-product of what we are really hunting... Here in ON it is illegal to allow game meat to spoil so we eat them anyway.

Lmao, screw mounting antlers this year. There's a great spot on my wall for a set of trophy whitetail eyeballs!

Geez. I just about blew coffee through my nose, had a vision of the slow-moton shot on that youtube vid of the head-shot deer in Britain, and trying to mount it on a plaque !

Cheers

Just finished my latest .22 build.

- Houge rubberized stock.
- Dlask 12.5" .920 bull barrel, threaded muzzle with thread protector. Machined with a sporter chamber, not a target chamber, which is a big plus for me.
- Trigger internals replaced with Volquartsen.
- Aimpoint Micro with quick detach American Defence mount.
- Flat top Picatinny rail.
- Butler Creek steel lips mags. (All nicely broken in now, they work quite reliably)

This would make for an excellent little truck gun. Fast, short, lightweight, should be accurate, and can pack a lot of ammo and mags in a small case with the gun.

I did order a whistle pig, with hogue stock (flex isn't an issue when the barrel hardly weighs anything) and trigger components. They claimed it with customs and it arrived on time. It is incredible. The gun is so light that when I hand it to people they do that awkward "lift it up" because they are expecting it to be three times heavier. Now I'm not going to say that it shoots 1/2" all day, but it shots well enough that my next time at the range I'm going to try the 5 shot at 50 yards challenge and see how it does.

If I recall correctly a short barrel on a .22 actually may enhance accuracy. Target rifles (where they're trying to punch out a pin-prick sized dot on a bit of paper in competition) have .. is it 16? or 18? inch barrels. The great long "bloop tube" on the end is attached to give a better sight radius. I understand most if not all of the powder is burned in 16 or 18 inches in a .22, so more barrel may be redundant to the needs for accuracy during the acceleration of the bullet. I think a shorter barrel than about 16 inches will end up being more like a handgun, and will end up spewing unburnt propellant out the muzzle instead of using it all up.

hoytcannon, what kind are the black stocks in the first picture??? i like them..there nice.

The Black stocks are Barracuda stocks from Boyd's... If you watch the website, they do limited production runs of the Barracuda stock a couple times every year... I painted the stocks with eight coats of Krylon... One coat of primer, one coat of flat black, two coats of textured black, two more coats of flat black and finally two coats of UV Clear Matte... The textured finish has very good grip and looks great... The finish is very durable, doesn't scratch and can be wiped down with a wet cloth to clean.
