92FS - slide sometimes does not lock open after magazine empties

Last time I took my 92FS out to the range I had the experience that about half the time, after the magazine emptied, pulling the trigger yet again resulted in the hammer falling on an empty chamber and the slide going forward so the action was closed.

I've put about 1000 rounds through this pistol and of course normally the slide locks open when the magazine is done and pulling the trigger will not cause the hammer to fall or the action to close.

Any thoughts as to why is this happening?
I clean the gun pretty religiously.

Thanks.

There should be a small wire spring that works with slide stop, if it's gunked up, it's not working. It keeps slide stop from moving up when mag has ammo and when it's empty, mag follower pushes slide stop up but has to overcome the mentioned above spring's power and it may not as it's stuck.
Spring is in frame, take slide off, insert slide stop into frame and watch where it goes, clean around it.

Sometimes your thumb can prevent the lever from moving.
Depending on how you hold it.
If it locks open with an empty magazine that could be the problem.

Dang! 20 minutes, 3 answers. I love CGN.

I think the grip issue is very possible. I did modify my grip a bit last time out, and I definitely was tighter on the pistol than usual.

I'll check it out this week. CeeZer - I'll check that spring out.

Thanks again.

Armorer check would be to take a snap cap or dummy round.

Load it into the magazine and cycle the action. It will load the round, simultaneously leaving your magazine spring in exact condition you can expect during firing.

Cycle again to eject that round. The slide lock should positively engage the locking recess. If it does not, then you need to either address the magazine springs (too weak to fully activate the slide lock) or the slide lock spring (can become misshapen over time and prevent proper operation). Usually, if it is the slide lock it will tend to affect ALL magazines. If it is mag springs, it will tend to be isolated to older mags.

If neither is the case and the slide lock functions perfectly magazine after magazine, then you need to provide remedial training for the shooter.

Just went through similar checks on my P226. It was a deformation of the slide lock spring.
