94 disassembly 1921

It's not a bad disassembly to do, but before you start, have a means to tell apart and identify the screws. THAT is the frustrating part when reassembling.

You are a VERY, VERY good son to get your Dad such a gift!

I hope you are aware that the 94 is one of the harder rifles to take apart

it is easy after you have done a few

A first step might be to remove the rear stock and do a bit of cleaning with a tooth brush with out taking it all apart
the mag tube might need a bit of a clean as well
it might be all it needs
Here is a bit more info (with a bit of searching)

My strong advice, do not take the 94 apart.
You have to have gunsmith quality punches, even to get it apart. And wow, looking at a diagram on paper and the pieces of rifle in front of you, is two completely different things.
Removing one screw in the tang will allow you to pull the butt stock off. This is as far as you have to go.
Work the action, while spraying lots of WD40, or similar, all through the action and letting it drain. If you have compressed air, it is much easier.
Take the front stock off, too, if you wish. It's much easier than the action, but doesn't come apart by itself, or with your fingers!

I was told by an old hand at win 94's when I started playing with them to "just take all the screws out and shake and it will come apart". It does work but I wouldn't recommend this method the first time. The utube videos are good and the most important part is clean all the old oil/varnish off of the pieces before reassembly as it will fit together better. Print off a parts diagram and have it sitting on the bench with you. If you have problems feel free to pm

Took it apart and got it all back together. Not really difficult but getting the hammer in with the "claw" spring was a pain.

Cycles much nicer now. Will go test fire on sunday.
