Hi all. I was wondering what a 1915 Model 98/05 Prussian Sawtooth bayonet would go for in Canada. For sake of argument lets say good condition with German manufacturer's and Prussian markings intact and complete with scabbard but no frog.

Are these hard to find here?

Thanks.

I got my regular 98/05 at a gunshow without scabbard for $100 a few years ago. I have seen regular ones with scabbards and frogs go for ~$200 and up on E-bay depending on condition. Expect to pay a premium for sawback blades as there was a small % of them that had it with many being "sanitized" with the saw back removed during the war and just afterwards.

I saw one on ebay with all the fixings that went for $500 USD I think. The blade was 1915 dated as well as the frog.

I also recall seeing one at a gunshow with no scabbard or frog with a $170 price tag. Saw back intact, 1916 dated blade. That was a year ago though so I expect it sold rather quickly.

Thanks Nabs, I read on the net that only 6% were sawbacks. And that you need to watch out for fakes. Any thoughts on how to readily spot the real thing as opposed to fakes?

My best advice would be to look at reference pictures of the real thing on the internet and in books, keep those in mind when looking. I think the M98 Rifle and Carbine book by Dieter Storz has some nice close ups of the saw tooth bayonet. I will check the first chance I get.

I just sold a really decent one with regimentally marked frog for 225.00..its was a beauty though....they still turn up quite a bit in the 100-200 dollar range at market .antique stores,etc...
