With the recent talk of 9mm 1911s (well at least two threads), typically how reliable are they at feeding? The reason for this question is that in the new G&A "Book of the 1911", one of the authors states that the only reliable feeding mags are the Springfield ones, and looking at the NP29 mag in another thread, they look identical. Anyhoo, what have been your experiences with 9mm 1911s?

No problems with my NP29 with the original crappy nork mag or some Mecgar's I bought. All 1911's with the standard barrel can give feeding problems with hollowpoints or trunacted cones as the bullet tip can hang up on the feed ramp on the barrel. Ball will feed flawlessly.

The 2 Norinco NP29 work fine, but I also swapped out the followers with Shooting Star ones so I can load 10 in the mag. I also have several Shooting Star mags that work flawless. Never a prblem yet no matter what I feed in my Armco Norc.

Going to shoot mine right now...I bought some MECGAR mags and they drop free super fast and no FTF FTE issues when fully charged. The oem Colt mags are good but I prefer the MECGAR.

Mine is a Colt Gov 1911 in 9mm btw

I always thought that most feeding problems of 9mm in 1911's had more to do with the ramp than with magazines.

I've had success with NP29 and these brands:

* MecGar
* Norinco factory 9mm
* Pachmyer (identical to MecGar... could they be?)
* Metalform
* Original Colt (Suspect it's a MecGar)

Life is good with these mags and the NP29

Cheers,
Barney

I have a problem with my NP-29. The slide is not always open after the last round. Is my own problem, magazine or recoil spring ? I use a 10 lb recoil spring right now.

Check the slide release ...I busted one on my Colt and it would not hold open. If it is sometimes then my best guess is the mags.

By the way, do not believe everything "the Book of 1911" says. Gun writers only try/test those freebies that they receive from manufacturers/sponsors, and they will not go out and test other stuff that we use.

And they usually don't say anything negative about their sponsors' products. Use these books as reference only.
