I’m looking for suggestions for a full size 1911 in 9mm. I had my mind set on a Staccato R but it looks like they’ve discontinued it, so I’m back to the drawing board and open to suggestions. It needs to be IPSC Classic division legal, and I’d prefer a ready to go complete pistol rather than piecing something together with a patch work of upgrades. Price range between $2500-$3000ish.

Had the Bul m5 limited custom 1911 40. S&w...it was a fine pistol...shot dead on...but not a small frame 1911...was chunky with that double stack grip...

I was looking at the Bul Armory stuff. This is definitely the type of direction I want to go - dialed right out of the box. Do you have any hands on experience with them?

Sorry, I don’t. All of my Classic guns are STI.

But... If I needed a new Classic pistol - and I didn’t want to spend SVI money - I’d go Bul.

The Red Deer Shooting Centre had a decent selection.

If you are spending that much why choose a factory gun that has been slapped together from a parts bin where you could have a custom gun built by a great gunsmith with all the parts fitted. A master gunsmith might take days making a pistol. A factory can produce many pistols an hour they make way more money that way and they pump that money into marketing.

Can a factory gun keep rounds in the A Zone at 100 yards and work reliably. You never need that level of precision in a match but it is certainly nice to know its there. And no super duper sponsored shooter will be shooting one if they are paid to shoot a factory gun. 99.9% of us are not sponsored for me it is about getting the best quality for the best price.

I was susceptible to marketing to. I was shooting revolver in competition Jerry Miculek shoots smith and Wesson so of course I and every body else is shooting a smith. However the smith is not really suited for high volume ipsc shooting and practice. I have had the trigger stud fail 3 times on two different n frame revolvers. Not a problem with a sponsored shooter like Jerry hey smith send me a few more I broke two this week. But me I have to send them in to lousy smith and Wesson and wait over a year to get them back.

Now I did have a problem with my dlask built by joe the front sight was moving in the dovetail. Send it back he returned it the next day fixed.

Agreed above, build one, just make sure by a good smith, otherwise those great parts are just wasted

A few years back I bought a new Springfield RO 9mm.
I had it 6 months. It wouldn't shoot a group. I sent it in for warranty. It had a bad barrel. It took 6 months for me to get it back. I don't like 1911s anymore. It used to be the only gun for me. Buy a CZ Shadow. They're much better.
