I am beginning my search for the perfect 9mm 1911. I am looking to keep the price below 2500. I have had a Kimber Eclipse .45 in the past and loved it but I don't want to pay the price for ammo. I am also concerned the 9mm might be a let down after owning a .45. Any insight on make and potential dealer would be appreciated.

My Dan Wesson Specialist LASD edition works very well and came with five mags. I see them listed at several dealers for a wide range of prices and mag count so buyer beware. This month I picked up a Guardian in 9mm as well but so far I haven't been able to get to the range with it. The price for the Guardian was all over the place too.

Yup. I sold my 9mm 1911. Granted it was only a Norkie, but I truly believe a 1911 needs to be in .45acp to do justice to the platform. They were designed to work best with each other. If you want a 9mm, get a Glock 17 or 226 or similar that's designed for the 9mm. JMHO.

I have 9mm, .40 cal and .45 ACP in the 1911 platform. None disappoint. Not sure why 9mm would disappoint. I put 10X more 9mm through the 1911 than the other calibres. Shootin' is shootin' and shootin' is expensive. 9mm makes sense. If I could have only one 1911, using them like I do it would be the 9mm. I'd be pretty upset because I like them all!

I have 1911's in 45, 10mm and 9mm. All nice and great shooters.

I am, however, having a lot of problems with the 9mm magazines. The gun is new and fairly high end (Dan Wesson), but I get a lot of nose dive and there are FTF's and I have to tap the slide in. Sometimes, the cartfidge won't clear the magazine lip to get to the chamber. I have
around 1000 rounds through the pistol, so the slide is broken in. I distribute the loading amongst maybe 8 mags so each mag has not been
used all that much.

I have some high end mags, but so far, I find that the cheap Met Gars work the best. Anyone else having the same problem with their 1911 9mm's. If so, how do you fix it????

I acquired both a Dan Wesson Guardian and a Specialist LASD Edition, both in 9mm. Factory, MEC-Gar, Wilson Combat and a set of Dan Brown magazines all work as advertised. One thing to note is that the capacity of the Guardian is 9 rounds while the Specialist takes 10 rounds. You can also have problems with the Specialist if you like to slam your magazine base pads. This can push the magazine too far up the well and cause feeding issues. Gentle but firm push until you feel it click home works every time.
