9mm 1911

Nothing at all wrong with a 9mm 1911—they are a fun and pleasant-shooting pistol. I don't own own now but had a 9mm STILL Spartan a few years ago that shot well for me, although I think they've been discontinued. An I'm sure the Shadow 2 is a great pistol (I've only owned the original Shadow so I can't compare) the 1911 is a different enough pistol that they don't really compare. If you want a 1911 get a 1911.

I have 1911's in 45, 10mm and 9mm. All nice and great shooters.

I am, however, having a lot of problems with the 9mm magazines. The gun is new and fairly high end (Dan Wesson), but I get a lot of nose dive and there are FTF's and I have to tap the slide in. Sometimes, the cartfidge won't clear the magazine lip to get to the chamber. I have
around 1000 rounds through the pistol, so the slide is broken in. I distribute the loading amongst maybe 8 mags so each mag has not been
used all that much.

I have some high end mags, but so far, I find that the cheap Met Gars work the best. Anyone else having the same problem with their 1911 9mm's. If so, how do you fix it????

most likely spring tension of the mags

I had an sti lawman in 9mm. The tightest fitting and the most accurate 1911 I had, my trojan was on the same level as well. Takes any ammo, never had any failures on those 2.. I regretted selling them and now I just ordered an sti ranger. If you interested, i just checked the website of freedom ventures and they still have a lawman and ranger in stock.

I too went through a number of different 1911 9mm magazines that all suffered nosedives when loaded to 10rds when using them in my STI Trojan. I tried Metalform, Tripp Research and Wilson Combat. All had the issue.

The fix was to use the Dawson Precision 9mm magazines that are sold by Freedom Ventures. They have a ramp built into the magazine body that helps the top round load properly into the chamber. As such, I've not experienced nosedives since going with the Dawsons.

I suggest trying them out as they work great for me.

Good luck.

Dan Wesson Pointman. I shot one dead center five times straight the first occasion I ever fired it. 15 yards.

No issue with the mag on the one I tried.

I am beginning my search for the perfect 9mm 1911. I am looking to keep the price below 2500. I have had a Kimber Eclipse .45 in the past and loved it but I don't want to pay the price for ammo. I am also concerned the 9mm might be a let down after owning a .45. Any insight on make and potential dealer would be appreciated.

Yes, it was a let down for me. What's the point of a 1911 in 9mm?

If you could afford a $2500 1911, and don't want to pay the difference between 9mm and .45 ammo, how about trying reloading? I know you wont really save money because you'll be shooting a lot lot more.

Me too; had a .45 first; thought gee, a nine would be nice on the same platform to practice with so I bought one. It was fine, but I still have the .45; don't have the 9 anymore.

I have a few 1911 in 45acp and one in 9mm. They all work the same. I've never had any issues with a 9mm 1911. It is kind of cheating since there is barely any recoil since its so heavy.

I don't like the .45 cartridge at all and would never own anything chambered in it.
That's why, for me at least

I find .45 loaded with 200 gr. SWC to be about the most accurate shooting center fire pistol cartridge there is for a Semi-Auto. The also make the very biggest clean round holes in paper; very satisfying!!!

.45 just doesn't do anything for me, personally. Not to mention the cost. Almost cheaper to shoot .223 than .45
Any pistol or PCC I buy will always be in 9mm (or .380 because I love my PPKs). Including a 1911.
A lot of people think it's heresy to have a 1911 chambered in anything but .45 but the Luger, which birthed the 9mm, was going to be chambered in .45 for the American army if it were selected in the trials. Which it likely wouldn't have been, but that doesn't stop people from coveting a Luger chambered in .45, repro or not. That's where the argument falls apart, for me.
I know the OP already went with a Shadow 2, but regarding specifically a 1911 chambering, I would be going with 9mm. Just personal preference.

So you can swap out the barrel for one in .38 Super. ;) :p
