Hi guys, i'm looking at buying my first center fire semi-auto. I've been planning on it for about a year now and the time has come. In anticipation, I have been picking up used 9mm casings and I now have nearly 2000 of them.. half of which are nickel plated(not that it matters).

I happen to be on quite a small budget aswell. Around 400$ plus taxes max.

I already have a .22 target pistol and a webley mk6 in .455 webley. Both inherited and selling them is not an option.

So I have a few choices here. Norinco Sig clone, Norinco CZ clone, norinco 1911 commander clone(yes I like the smaller model) or norinco 9mm 1911 clone. I also have a friend who has a real "colt 45" that was offered to me for 400$. I haven't seen it but it can't be in great shape if he's just asking 400$..

Now I REALLY like the 1911 model BUT, being low on cash, 9mm makes more sense. I do reload (hence why i've been picking up brass..).

So, my question is: How is the 9mm single stack norinco 1911 clone? Are any parts interchangeable with real 1911s? I have fairly large hands so grip size shouldn't be a problem. I have shot real sigs, CZs, and 1911s and I am still not sure of what I want (I want everything..)

I won't be putting thousands of rounds a month on it. It will be an occasional plinker. I might do some ipsc style stuff in the future but nothing is definite.

So, norinco sig, norc cz, norc 1911, norc 1911 9mm?

Wait until you have a little more. If you're going to purchase a Norinco, get it from Armco.
 
New Norinco, or used something else - cost will be similar. I wouldn't fixate on only Norinco.
Johnone reports that a large shipment with new models will be arriving soon. If you want Norinco, why not wait and see?
I've put over 2700 rounds through my NP29, its a good gun, can't complain.
 
get a used Taurus Pt92 or 99 they go for ~$400and there are a couple of them in the EE. Very reliable and accurate guns. If you have large hands you'll love it...
 
Well I was thinking of getting a norc from marstar and then sending it to armco for tuning.

Question remains, how is the NP-29 and what is it compatible with as far as replacement parts etc..

If I stick with norinco, should I go for a sig clone, a cz clone, an NP-29, or a 45 acp norc commander.

4.1 inch vs 5inch barrel for the 1911?


Oh and, Anyone know what these new models will be and how long till they arrive?

oddione, you have a hard row to hoe. Getting a 9mm 1911 to run isn't the easiest thing in the world so I would shop a company with lots of experience. I guess I would try a Norinco 1911 in 9mm but I am sure I would prefer to save a little longer and buy a Springfield 1911. Regards, Richard:)

NP29 is compatible with pretty much any 9mm 1911 parts, with the exception of anything with threads on it. My NP29 ran fine in 9mm, wouldn't feed trunicated cone, but that was kind of expected.
Any of the Nork 1911's are a pretty good buy.
 
"...wouldn't feed trunicated cone..." Hitzy,were these lead bullets? I ask as I used to shoot lead trunicated cone bullets in my TZ75 with great success but the guy that did the casting died. Regards, Richard:)
 
I have a 9mm commander that started out as a Norinco. As I could afford it I customized it with mostly Colt and Wilson aftermarket parts. I ran 900 rounds through it on the long weekendalone. Had a few fail to feeds with the CCi Blaser ammo but the American Eagle and all my handloads ran fine. 1911's are a bit picky with overall cartridge length and bullet design. Full Metal jacket ( round nose) are what they were designed for and that's what they shoot best. Saving more for a nicer gun is good advice but I wouldn't rule out the Norinco if that is what you want.
 
Well in the longer run (next two years) I want a real 1911 and a real sig or cz. I really want a norc 1911 in 45 acp but the ammo costs seem prohibitive.. even when reloading.

(sig and cz clones) vs norc 1911 commander?

Anyone have any inside info about the new Marstar arrivals?
 
Single Stack 9mm 1911

I have a Norc NP-29 1911 9mm that has had a few mods to it [trigger, ambi-safety] and I have to say I'm impressed with it. I just wish the slow boat would get here again so I could take Hungry's advice and get a second one.

I agree about a trip to Armco for any Norc to get a 'tune' and 'smooth out'. Worth it.
 
Kimbers?

I am seriously thinking about buying a Kimber in 9mm. I was thinking about a Gold Match II or a Stainless Target II. Any experience or opinion on the subject? Is the Gold Match worth the price difference? Of course, I'd prefer be shooting .45 all day long but I'm thinking money wise here....
 
Norinco?

A new 9mm sounds like a ton of fun and even better if you join the local IPSC club.

A couple of the guys here is Stoon bought SP01's and they seem very reliable, even better are the M&P's.

The three Norincos at the club however have all been in the shop at one time or another and don't feed with the same reliability as the other guys.

I am sure the Nor's are a fine gun but I would try to scrounge a few more bucks and look at others.
 
Set your sights higher...

Forget the Chi-com junk. Everybody has to fix it or tune it or have parts installed. Take out all the working parts and you have a junky chi-com frame and slide. How come everyone wants to keeps these parts? When you go to sell it after dropping all that cash into it, its still Chi-com. Can you say low-ball prices?
Do yourself a favour and buy a Glock 17 or a S&W M&P.

hatman1793, although these are 45acps, I do not consider either of them to be "Chi-com junk". If Bill Wilson will work on Norincos they are not junk! Regards, Richard:)
