Saw that kimber has a 9mm option for their tactical 1911 the other day. Are there any issues with 9mm in the 1911 platform? is it sacrelige to look at a 1911 in 9mm?

initially it interested me just because I like spending less money on ammunition.

other option would be to just go with the standard .45 and buy a 22 upper to get trigger time with. I think the 9mm frames dont work with the .22 slide but my main ammo would be cheaper at least.

I dont have any aspirations to be a competition whore, but would like something that I could try out idpa or ipsc with and thought running through .45 ammo might be a little costly since I dont reload.

that put my initial research into glocks/sig 226's or cz 75, but theres something about that 1911 that is bringing me back

There's nothing wrong with the 9mm on the 1911 platform.

[Yes, I actually said that.... ]

If you want one that doesn't break the bank, check out the STI Spartan 9mm from Armco [sponsoring dealer, click the link on the top left tool bar at the top of the CGN page].

NAA.

The 9mm 1911's that I've shot are both excellent pistols.

And it's quite alright to own one in 9mm if you already have one in the proper and fitting .45acp.... :D

I shoot a 9mm 1911 for ipsc. Mostly because it is cheap. If you start reloading ask the guys at your club they will all have buckets of 9mm brass looking for a home.

I have had several 9mm 1911's, a few needed more work then I thought they should have but most shot well as is, but hands down the best, most reliable and the clear winner in accuracy was my Trojan.

Actually, a 9mm round is a more reliable shooting cartridge out of a 1911 platform.

The round is presented in more of a straight line to the bore than a .45ACP. Translates to a more reliable feeding function. Consistent reliable feeding is one of 1911's ailments.

X1 My trojan is more accurate then I deserve. Stainless to boot. Buy one, you won't regret it!

I always wanted a 1911 in 9mm
I tried one for the first time last week end was a Para.

Didnt like it (I own a nork in .45) I cant really say why except that I didnt like the feel and recoil. Weird dont you think ? I was surprised of my reaction too. I have a 9mm BHP and I love it, for some reason the para 1911 9mm was not what I expected.

Ailments? AILMENTS ? ! ? !

YOU, Sir, need to go and wash your mouth out with SOAP!

.... ailments indeed... like to be spouting other heresies about the Holy S&W Model 10's next.... darn heathen.....

i have a 1911 in 9mm. smartest choice i could of ever made.not because i'm a wimp witha .45, but because i can maximize efficiencies in producing my own reloading. i keep all my pistols in 9mm, i keep costs down. meaning more bullets.

I have had two Colt gov's in 9mm. Excellent guns.

I am waiting for Ardent or NAA to sell me their commander sized ones.

Gonna be a loooong wait I would say.

The commander length STI Ranger II in 9 was one of the two 9mm 1911's I've tried. WHAT A SWEET GUN! Balance was spot on without the slight muzzle heaviness of the full length Trojan. Not something you really notice unless you heft them one after the other.

Having said that I've got my name attached to a full length STI Spartan in 9mm that is coming to a dealer near me at some point in the next few weeks.

Reliable in Vancouver has a beautiful old Colt Series 70 9mm in stock on a trade in. I wouldn't hesitate to own a 1911 in 9mm. In fact I own 3 of them!
