9mm Baby Eagle vs CZ 75 SP01

So I went to my local gun store to see what handgun fit nicely in my hand as I'm considering buying my first handgun. After holding a glock 17, a S&W M&P 9 and ruger sr9 I came along the baby eagle. It felt much better in my hand than anything else. I also held a cz75 sp01, which felt nice but not as nice as the baby eagle but had night sights and ambidextrous levers. So any advice concerning either of these guns is appreciated. Thanks

if you like that, you will love the tanfoglio grip. I hate the safety/decocker on the slide, much better on the frame.
 
Thanks I'll have to try holding one of those, I prefer the safety/decocker to be on the frame as well but it wouldn't stop me from buying with them on the slide
 
If you're right handed I wouldn't let the ambi controls sway you one way or the other. Why buy your gun for someone else later on down the road? Buy it to fit YOU. Of course if you're left handed then ambi controls are the way to go.

As for the SP-01 it's not like up here in Canada you'll be called on to shoot at the range during a blackout or late at night with no lights so the night sights are highly questionable up here. Not so the fiber sight on the Shadow. That one really jumps out at you and makes getting a faster sight picture easy to do.... at least it sure helps me to do so. As with so many things YMMV on this count. But don't decide until you get to see a fiber sight and lift the gun up and gain your sight picture a few times. Other than that just plain black or maybe white or lime green dots and be done with it.

The Baby Eagle is a sweet shooting gun. And with IWI still making it as the Jericho parts shouldn't be an issue for the foreseeable future. A guy could do a lot worse.
 
What type of shooting?

What type of shooting are you going to do? Are you going to target shoot? Are you going to shoot IPSC? I would take this into consideration, before I purchased either handgun. If you are going to strictly target shoot then pick the one that you like more or is cheaper. If you want to shoot IPSC then I would pick the CZ Shadow.
 
Thanks, I'm right handed, and I plan on just target shooting for now but want to get into ISPC down the road. The CZ felt almost as good as the Baby Eagle but if the CZ is better then maybe a pair of grips would make it feel better in my hands
 
Accessories

You will also find more accessories available for the CZ like grips,springs, holsters as many competitors use the Shadow for IPSC and conversely more vendors sell Shadows.

Try the CZ with the aluminum grips - excellent!
 
Do the aluminum grips make the CZ feel thinner? If so that's not the problem, the reason the Baby Eagle felt better in my hand was because it felt a little thicker, are there grips out there that would make the CZ feel the same?
 
Yes the aluminum grips make the CZ feel thinner, enough that I can use the gun, otherwise I would not be able to properly reach the controls.

You might like the Hogue rubber grips with the finger grooves on the frontstrap on the CZ.

I can't use these because they add too much to the grip for me but you might like them.

We shoot low light in ODPL, not sure about IPSC or IDPA and I can see my buddies night sights from behind the firing line and they are pretty sweet.

Not sure if sure if i'd be shooting in low light, but I think night sights would be sweet regardless
 
Between SP-01 and Baby Eagle - SP-01 hands down.

Between stock Tanfoglio and SP-01 - SP-01 hands down.

Unless you're getting a 'high end' CZ clone (such as the Tanfoglio HC Custom), then don't look beyond the SP-01.

I have USPs, Glocks, two other CZ's etc, and nothing aside from 1911's touch the SP-01.
