Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a Sig 226 in .40 for the range and IPSC. I want a .40 for the extra kick/stopping power but can't afford to continuously shoot .40 just to practice. I"ve noticed that with many handguns it is possible to buy a 9mm barrel to convert to 9mm, thus cheaper ammo.

Is it possible to modify the Sig 226 .40 in such a manner?

Thanks

Barsto makes such a barrel. I'm pretty sure that Sig does not have a factory 9mm conversion barrel. The barsto will probably run you $300 CAD + Shipping + Gunsmithing.

you would be better off using the Sig in 9mm for IPSC, especially if you shoot Production. What do you need the extra power for?

hello,
my 226 was originally cambered in 357, decided to rechamber it to 40sw, out of curiosity while waiting for my barsto bbl to arrived, I borrowed my buddys 9mm bbl, and guess what, it works, although I only tried it for 50 rnds. the groups were not bad, but not as accurate, 3-4 inches @20dyrs.but remember that there will be a shift in the point of impact..why not try to reload so you can save with the cost in ammo, with this you can develop the best load for your needs.

You can switch the slide and barrel from the .40cal to the 9mm frame and vs versa. I realize money does not grow on trees, but this may be an excellent excuse to buy a nice CPO Sig. Tell your wife: "Honey I have to buy another gun, because it is going to save me money because it shoots a cheap bullet" and when she asks if you are selling the other one: "Honey, I need it to shoot the special competations, where I can win prizes"

I have a P229 in 40 S&W, can't get it in 9mm anymore (in Canada). The barsto barrel in 9mm for a 40/357 slide looks to be the only option (and no I don't want a P226 the P229 fits my hand better - not sure why?). I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried the barsto 9mm in a 40/357 frame. Not to concerned if the 9mm barrel has to be extended to be legal. Can't find reference to it on US forums either? Anyway anyone try this or have reference to a US site? Do tell.:)

The slides are different for the 9mm and the .40S&W/.357SIG. Like others said, Barsto makes a 9mm barrel specifically made to fit the .40 slide but not the other way around. Barsto of course also makes a regular 9mm replacement barrel for the 9mm slide.
