I've voted for the Glock. You can't go wrong with m&p or XDM either...... It's personal preference. For me the XDM sit too high in my hand. For M&P, it's à good gun, but I prefer Glock.

I hated the Glocks for so long ...
now they are everywhere in my safe
buy em all ...
The MP is the best valve of late.
Everytime I stretch my poor thumb to reach the mag release on a Glock
I reminded Its easyer on the M&P

There are expensive and inexpensive gun, no beginner or expert gun. it all depends who is behind the trigger. But easy to operate and maintain, how easy to get parts is a main factor for many of us to decide which gun to buy, as such xd should not be in the list.

I personally don't care for a pistol with a DA/SA trigger. Either works (and I have to say my favorite is a 1911 platform) but I like consistency from shot to shot. Whether its DAO or SAO, as long as it is the same. Just my opinion.

Buy a Shadow from CRAFM for $734.99.
Best deal on one of the best 9mm's in the world.
Great trigger, great sights, great accuracy. Ready for competition.

Wait - do you mean "real world experience" as in "I had it at the range for a couple days", or "real world" as in "I used it to shoot smelly, bearded enemies of freedom in the face"????

Kind of makes a difference...

You mean to say that "I've put 125 rounds of Match ball through it at the range" ISN'T the equivalent of " I washed the blood off it in a puddle, and when it was half way clean had to shoot another guy who popped up over the berm" Now I'm confused.

M&P 9mm all the way was my first handgun and great for a beginner and beyond. Iv improved quite a bit since I first got mine. Love it. Easy to maintain and to problem solve on. Price is great as well and it eats any ammo you feed it with minimal cleaning needed. I shot glocks, springfield,h&k,sigs and ruger 9mm before making my choice.

x 2. Great gun. I've used the Browning Hi-Power and carried the Sig 226. Both highly respectable guns for sure , but I prefer the M&P 9mm. Why ? Its compact, light, affordable, easy to manipulate, changable backstraps, and simple to maintain.

From your list i'd probably go with M&P, but also look in to Walther PPQ.. same idea, better trigger.

Cheers.

I wouldn't worry too much about what pistol you go with. Find the one that feels most comfortable in your hands and go from there. Also, some people will tell you that you should start shooting 22LR, then progress to other larger calibres. There are pros and cons to this method like any other. The biggest pros are that there's little recoil and the ammo's cheap. The biggest con is that with little recoil, it's easy to form bad habits from the get go.

The main thing I'd stay away from is large or snappy calibres. For example, starting off on a 40SW with a short barrel is just begging for a flinch. That said, you seem to be focusing on 9mm pistols, so this may all be moot.

I hardly notice recoil at all with my Glock 17. Not to mention, some handloads I've made barely cycle the action. I'd be happy to go back in time and buy another Glock 17 as my first gun, but I don't have much experience with the others, so I wouldn't rule them out.
