9mm bolt action

Has anyone here assembled or custom made a bolt action 9mm Luger repeater. Seems like there’s a hole in the Canadian market now caused by regulations and bans to be filled by a 9mm rifle that takes Glock mags.
I’m thinking to grab a Ruger ranch in 350 legend, rebarrel, and a AR to Glock mag adapter and see if I can get it to feed. 350 and 9mm have almost the same case head diameter.
One of the manual AR style with a 350 bolt and extension and 9mm barrel should work too?
Or is this a pipe dream?

I wouldn't start with 350 Legend, I would start with .223/5.56. .223 is only a slightly smaller case head diameter than 9x19 and there is already aftermarket support with 9mm AR mags and the like. It should be relatively easy to convert an MRA Renegade from .223 to 9x19.

You should be able to use the Glock mag adapters as well, but you will probably have to cut the ejector off, as OkayShooter says.

There are some threads talking about this in the PCC forum and at least one here in Gunsmithing talking about converting Enfield actions to various pistol cartridges.

There have been a couple different kits available through the years to convert Lee enfields to 9mm or 45acp. There is also the Taylor’s 1873 lever action. There is also the dark mountain stowaway in 9mm. None of them feed from Glock mags however.

One thing I have found with my Ruger Americans that take ar magazines, compared to my savage scout 223 and others that takes aics mags, it seems like double stack mags just take a lot more effort to cycle the bolt. On a bolt action 9mm it might make more sense to use something like 1911 magazines or something proprietary if it cycled smoother

Instead of starting with a Ruger American it might make more sense to look at a mra renegade or something that could use the off the shelf 9mm ar barrels that are already out there

I was leaning this way, but seems like most ar bolts and barrels in 9mm are set up for straight blowback. I am still searching for a rotating bolt setup intended for 9mm ar and would probably go that way if I could source it

I have thought of something similar using an MRA receiver, .223 bolt, and an AR magazine adapter to use glock magazines. The only custom part would be a 9mm barrel with barrel extension as traditional 9mm ARs are blow back. I don't have the tools or knowledge to do this myself and would rely heavily on gunsmiths and money to solve this problem if I did it myself.

I guess it could be also done with a traditional .223 bolt action that takes AR magazines in order to use the AR Glock magazine adapter if an aftermarket 9mm barrel could be manufactured.

CMMG makes bolts (that could be purchased without the BCG) and barrels that should work with the MRA receiver sets in 9mm, 40S&W, 10mm, 5.7, 10mm, and .45 ACP if they can be imported.

I'm hoping a Canadian manufacturer will come out with a bolt action (straight pull or traditional) short barreled PCC. I would settle for a 9mm but would prefer 40 S&W.

Edited to add: there is a Canadian importer that has CMMG bolt and barrel kits. They are not a CGN sponsor and even mentioning the name here is not allowed. Google "CMMG Canada" and you'll find them.

They are quick to respond and order stuff even if they don't have it listed but do carry the brand.

I was looking at this but settled on .300 blackout. If you do build one please keep us posted and good luck!

You don't need a 9mm bolt, just use a standard .223 bolt. At worst you will need to slightly open up the bolt face for the 9mm case. An MRA Renegade should only need a 9mm barrel with a standard AR extension and mags set up for 9mm to convert over.

JTAC Screech Owl chassis for Ruger American with AR magwell “coming soon” if I wanted to really go over budget.
Have to get a spreadsheet going this weekend

Rock Island Armoury rifle in .22 TCM.. basically a necked down 9mm. No magazine mods needed, rebarrel only. Rifle mags are 5 rounds, but it also takes their 17 round pistol mags.

Ordered a 9mm barrel blank 1:10 twist, 1.25”
Should be able to make something work. I think I’ve decided to try a turn bolt rifle over an AR style straight pull.
We will see. That last jump to the chamber maybe a problem. Some kind of floating teflon block?
