9mm bolt action

AR Adapters normally have a feed ramp in it. But likely will have to cycle the action fast.
 
Paul Cook and I spoke about this a while ago. In preparation for the day when I'm fabulously wealthy, I bought a beater Remington 788 in .223. That's the start. Big advantage here is rear locking lugs, so the stubby pistol cartridge doesn't have to o'erleap a canyon to get to the chamber.

We reckon Paul could machine out the top half of the mag well of a 1911 and make it play nice with the receiver. The boltface is close enough. Extractor and ejector should work. Bore the tube out to .356 (or whatever 9 para takes), shorten it up to a handy length, and there we are - a means by which I can use up the 9mm para ammo I have without having to feed it through a handgun, which I can't shoot for sh!t.

On hold as I'm retired and fairly brokeish. Will advise.

I have convinced myself a Ruger American ranch is gonna work with just a barrel change haha.
If my delusion does not come to fruition I have a line on a 788 in 222 locally that I’ll grab if it’s still available next year…

Why not weld the 1911 mag body into the 788 mag.

It has been done with Lee enfield magazine. Also 9mm 1911 mags can make mag catch that goes in the rear due to a spacer.

Have no idea the faith on my 9mm Lee. Making a gun shoot 9mm is easy. It is getting it to feed and eject that is another story

Sounds to me like a lot of trouble, why not just sell your 9mm ammo and buy some 7.62x39 ammo with the proceeds? (serious question)

It’s my money and I’ll waste it how I want
I’d love to plink with something that has more jam than 22lr while still being relatively quiet and cheap. 9mm is probably the least expensive centerfire cartridge
Economy of scale. I can buy and shoot 1000s of rounds for way less without reloading.

I shoot a few thousand centre fire rounds per year, I get tired after 100-200 shots per session. I could stay at the range longer if I had a 9mm rifle

Making a 9mm rifle is easy. It is getting it to feed reliable and extracting that can be the tricky part.

My 9mm Lee was a failure compared to my 45acp.

Won't work. Because the short bolt head. Finding a spring that will give you enough rebound to kick out the case is super hard. Tiriaq knows too well this. As he did it on my 9mm Lee. That project been dead for years. I only successfully crudely fired 4 rounds that fed and ejected.

Only other 9mm Lee I seen that functioned well. Was a spring loaded wedge finger.

Well it will feed but not really in the “right” spot. So the adapter will need to be secured.
Bolt face needs to be opened the tiniest bit.
And the adapter looks goofy like that, probably get a 3D printed shroud to cover.
Not a drop in by any definition but I’m still hopeful this could work
