If you notice keyhole cuts in your paper target , likely, your OAL is shorter. It happened to me yesterday, 100 rounds test loads of varying powder charges. 80% of them keyholed in the paper target. As I switch to my original load, perfect punch. I initially want to disprove this theory on OAL. I was wrong. The bullet needs to sit within a specific clearance inside the chamber before entering the grooved portion of the barrel during the firing cycle. This was the same case I noticed when a fellow shooter bought some reloads from another shooter. We were shooting the same reloaded ammo, works perfectly in my 85 Combat, but keyholed most of the time in his Jericho 941.
Had not thought about the pressure increase with less volume. I will lighten the charge a bit too and yes on the bullet base, gotta use a digital caliper (dont got that) to do this.
