9mm Carbine Buying advice

Which is best buy

The JR carbine should eventually have the calibre conversion kits for sale here in Canada.
This is one more plus. I like the Idea of being able to convert to 40 or 45 without having to purchase a completely new rife.
Although I will probably keep mine in 9mil, because it is economical to shoot.
I have a Kriss and a Sub 2k. If I could only keep of these rifles it would be the JR carbine .

The reason I have decided on the JR carbine in 45acp is they have a version that takes 1911 mags. I shoot 1911's and reload 45 and have a bucket full if 1911 mags already so for me it's a no brainer. Can't wait to get one!

I believe its the Hogue over moulded fore end.

I like the look of this setup

I wonder what forend that is?

I'm a fan of the JR in 9mm. Mine has been relatively trouble free, and the company sent a whole bunch of parts to alleviate the problems others have been having.

Here are a few different ways you can get it to look with some Magpul koolaid attached...

I ordered a Thureon and I should receive it today. I will post a review once I get it.

I actually preferred the UZI mags for a couple of reasons. The main reason is I think the Glock mag models look stupid because of the angle of the mags (goes for all glock mag carbines).

I passed on the JR as I just read too many problems in the US forums. I was also turned off by the fact that you can't shoot +P in them.

Like I said, I will post a review once I get it unboxed and setup.

I spoke with rep named kevin from thureon today. And a couple reason he said they were better then others, Was yes that they can use any ammo including Plus P. Also you can take it down and clean it in like 20 secs with no tools. Where as JR needs wrench and allen key/screw drivers. And carbine is machined from solid aluminum billet it is then anodized and polymer coated. I also have to say thureon staff was super quick and helpful with my questions. Look forward to seeing your review travellerw, when you get it.

I apparently heard word that they are going to make Thureons in .357 SIG.

If they ever do and someone brings them in, count me in.

I don't mean to sound off, but why would you want one in 357sig? What advantage would it have over the .45acp version.

Seems strange that you would want to shoot costly rounds that are hard to reload for!

To each his own........but allow me to add my 2 cents.....
The best thing about a "pistol carbine", is that it's reasonably inexpensive to shoot. Seems to me your loosing a big chunk of the advantage by going to a more expensive ammo. Jast saying...
With 50rds of 9mm around $15 a box, I see that as an economical afternoon of fun with my JR.

One other detail some may not be aware of is that the straight magwell (modified Uzi mag) version is designed to also work with 9mm AR-15 mags. From their website:
http://www.thureondefense.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=6

Since there are 10 round 9mm LAR-15 pistol magazines available on the market, it gives this option to those who prefer the look of the straight magwell over that of the Glock version, without having to sacrifice capacity.

Also... Arms east is bringing in some Theron Defense pistols. The mags for those will be sold separetly.

I talked with the Alberta CFO and they stated that as long as the mag is designed for the pistol version its fine to buy it and insert it in the rifle.

So we should have that option very quick.

Yes it looks like I stand corrected on the +P with the JR. They have fixed their design to accomidate +P

I was a bit worried about thureon defense being such a small company. But apparently there part of sunny hill enterprises which has been making gun parts for 20 years in the usa.

Travellerw, pics and review please!
