Has anyone here ever hunted with a 9mm carbine? It would be perfect for coons. I'd like to hear some stories of people hunting coyotes with a 9mm carbine. If you shot +p 124 grain out of a 9mm carbine, you would probably be able to achieve a 1500fps velocity, which would most likely drop a coyote within 100 yards in my opinion. It would have a decent advantage for coyote hunting since you can legally load 10 rounds in a semi (or 13 if you use a .40S&W mag), and the accuracy is pretty good out to 100 yards.

Check the hunting regs for your area. I'm pretty sure 9mm (38spl, .357mag) are to big of a caliber. Nothing bigger than .270 I think if I remember correctly for varmints. Ya I know, can use a .270wsm but not a .38sp. Makes sense to me lol.

I once witnessed a badger shot with 9mm military ball ammo at close range. Very poor performance, multiple shots to the body required. Not effective and not humane. Hollow points may be a different story.

IMO, there are much better 9mm options than a JR Carbine. Hold a Beretta CX4 Storm, and you'll know what "just right" actually means:

Seems like a tad under-powered to get it right. I've a nice 32-20 rifle that I suppose I could take out in theory, poor selection for a humane kill...so it only gets gophers.
Just say no, man.

I don't think so man. You must of seen the first generation jr's. The newer(second gen) jr's are tanks, the whole thing is metal except for the grip the stock and the mag. I bet the jr would group better then the CX4.

I shot a badger with a 45-70 guide gun. One took a leg off, the other went through his body. He kept running. Those filthy buggers are tougher than nails. Third shot in the head stopped him.

Not a fun experience.

I hunt small game with a 9mm carbine with low velocity handloads, and have a spare mag of full powered 147 grain HP, in case I jump a coyote or wolf at close range. I love it.

with a good accurate load I would not hesitate to use it on coyotes out to about 50 yards and heck even deer but I would limit the range to about 15 yards and pass up any that would not be a perfect heart shot. at the end of the day its all about shot placement put a bullet through the heart of a game animal and it will expire no matter if its a .22 hornet or a .50 bmg

I know that, said badger was hit three times through the lungs, once through the hams, and the last shot was through the shoulder bones. He didn't even slow down with the first 4 shots. 9mm ball is a crappy choice for big varmints. Period. My .22 hornet with normal soft points would have ended the sorry event in one or perhaps two shots with the same shot placement. And anything bigger/faster would have been better.

Should work for small game - probably not the best, but with a very fast expanding bullet should work. Almost seems that across the board it over penetrates on small game. Ball is a terrible idea.
