I'm reloading 9mm on a turret press with Lee dies and every now and then, one of the cases gets scraped while I'm seating the bullet. Here's an image of what it looks like after.

The scratch isn't deep and the rounds have fired ok, I'm just wondering if anybody else has encountered this problem and how they've remedied it. More importantly, I'm concerned that I'm doing something stupid and damaging my dies, or something that may progress to unsafe loads in the future.

Dunno.. I'm not a fan of Lee dies in general, though I use them when I have to. I don't like the floating plugs in the seating dies - my .38 one will always seat to the same (too deep) depth, even with the screw backed right out and the die freshly cleaned.

I had the opposite problem with my .38 wadcutters, I needed to make a spacer in order to get them to seat deep enough. If you send lee a sample of your bullet, they will make you a custom plug for your die. I think it's under $20.

looks like case didn't center in shell holder ,can be caused by a piece of debris in extractor grove .This is not exclusive to lee can happen with all brands doing short cases .Cheers

Will it chamber?

That looks like a substantial burr.......

The angle and lighting make it look a lot more substantial than it actually is. I had to take the picture like four times before I could really get the scratch to show up.

On exam during my last 100, I noticed this appears to be the problem. The only two cases that scratched like this both had something in the groove. Thanks!

I also use lee dies and I get that too on some of my 38 spl reloads. Usually only on the factory crimp die though. I'm pretty sure with mine it's caused by the bullet being slightly oversized and bulging the case. One pass through the factory crimp and they all chamber and go bang but the damaged brass is annoying.
