I have been shooting DRG lead bullets for years. Cheap and accurate - but the smoke from the lube is annoying and a problem in some rapid fire situations.
I bought a couple thousand CamPro 124 gr plated bullets (the HP version) and have decide to use a jug of HP38 (231) that I have on the shelf.
I have also decided to compete only with a red dot sight. My old eyes just can't handle irons well.
So I loaded a hundred each of 3.8gr, 4.1 gr and 4.4 gr and shot each pistol with each of the three loads.
I wanted to see if a pistol had a strong favourite load; if one load would be "good enough" for all the pistols (6 of them) and I wanted to see if each pistol would cycle properly with all 3 loads.
The two Girsans would not cycle the mild load of 3.8gr.
There was a slight preference for the mid power load of 4.1 - so that is what I will load. Have not yet Chronied the 3 loads.
