Good choice for your first 9mm. My first polymer 9mm was the 4.5" cousin. The nice thing about the XDM's is that they are ready to go right out of the box and easy to find competition gear. You just need some range time and lots of practice ammo. If you do want to look at what custom options are available for the 5.25, check out Springer Precision for an entire section on XDM parts. If you are not a fan of the grips, you can get grip tape from Talon.
