9mm for wife, with very small hands

For someone with small hands I would suggest the Browning BDM. No polymer frame here.

Is it just me or is that safety backwards?

A single stack 1911 is just about the thinnest grip available for a duty size pistol. You can add thin grips to them. My wife had picked out a 1911 commander 45 to buy. That lasted about two shots and then the gun was posted back on the exchange. A heavy 9mm is more manageable recoil wise, and a cz with thin grips is 1.11 inch across. Same as a 1911 with thin grips and they allow her to color coordinate her pistol to who her outfit. Very important feature to women and metrosexuals.

IIRC it's not a safety but a decocker, ala the Beretta 92/M9. The BDM is an interesting pistol (Browning's entry into the US forces competition for a new service gun) but its magazines can be hard to come by.

I LOVE that DLASK hammer.

Might also try a J frame size revolver with the small grips. Kahr make great small hand pistols but of course they lack barrel length and thus the nod from our masters.

I hear the M&P works for the ladies.

My wife has small hands. She finds the 3906 (single stack) too big.

A Smith J frame fits fine, as does a Charter Arts 44 Bulldog.

The only semi I have that fits her is the little Star in 380. Like a miniature 1911.

Do you handload? I make lady-power ammo in most calibers so the little aldy can shoot. In 9mm it is the 135 or 125 grain lead round nose bullet over 3.5 gr of 231.

I think full power ammo in the beginning is asking for a flinch.

Just curious, the Wife made an off-hand comment about shooting the other day. The first time she's shown the SLIGHTEST interest in actually handling a firearm. I've got 22's to do introductions with, but I was thinking, her question involved kind of a "What if" scenario. We all know "What if" scenarios require centrefire pistols as a minimum ;). My only centrefires are my Glock21sf, which in no way would be appropriate for her, and my 10.5 inch Super Blackhawk, same story.
I'm thinking the S&W M&P9, would be a good first centrefire for her. Especially as it comes with interchangeable grips (i.e. we could both use it). She has silly small hands, anyone in a similar situation? I'd want defintely a full sized pistol in 9mm, to mitigate recoil, with very small grip option. Simple as possible to operate. I'm also thinking of the CZ75b. Of course the Glock 17 needs consideration. The biggest problem being, we were just in Virden (Wolverine) a month ago, there's no way she's gonna go for another trip out there just for that, and we aren't due to visit her Dad in Regina for a little while now. So I'll most likely have to make a purchase without letting her try out a bunch first (if she even would hold a bunch of guns in the store).

This all might end up as an academic pipe dream, as I gotta get her to the range shooting a couple 22's, and she's gotta not absolutely hate that, before I lay out more $$$. Just wondering what the liliputian folk among us find to be appropriately sized grips on pistols?

Some have mention the ruger SR9. My son shoots that gun, the grips can be modified (from the factory) the grips are small, the gun is very inexpensive, gives a lot more feedback to the user than any glock so she will kwow if its loaded, cocked, and ready to go. is really worth looking at. Very accurate to boot, and I mean accurate, maybe he lucked out and got a good one but man does it shoot well. I think it would be a much better starter gun than a glock for your wife. ( We shoot a lot and a lot of diffent stuff) Just know if you buy a good used one of anything off EE and she doesn't like it you can always get your money back when selling! Buy it right.

1911 with thin grips and short trigger.

HK P2000 or P30 with adjustable grip.

Walther P99 with small grip insert in place.

I have tiny hands, the 1911 with a short trigger is the limit of my reach. I found the the Norinco 213 Tok is a great fit in a 9mm, better than the 1911.

I have an M&P9 and it fits fine. I have the smallest grips on and set up for lefty status. I can reach everything, but to be honest I think I like a sig better. I am not sure which model it was that I tried one night, but it felt better. Quite a bit more $ thought IIRC.

Yes, I just bought my wife the M&P b/c it was the only one that fitted her properly. Can't say anything re the Glock or the CZ, although my wife likes the Baby Eagle, which I understand is similar to the CZ, to put it mildly.
