9mm handgun

Like I was told when I started, get something cheap and use the rest of the $ to buy a s####t load of ammo and training. At first, the pistol maters less than trigger time and proper technique. Then find one that fits your hands and preferences. The cool factor may sound stupid to some, but it will keep you going back the range if you get a semi when you handle it :)

This is my journey, I have small hands:
- Beretta too big. Fixed sights were to high for me.
- M&P Pro too big, sold
- PPQ did not fit me, could not hit a barn, sold
- Glock 17 was good, kept it. Best aftermarket and accessories on the market.
- 1911 S&W Pro 9mm was perfect! By far my best pistol.
- CZ P-09 is great. A bit big but it's squarish grip fits me well.

And then... As I got more experience, I found out I could get decent results even with the big pistols. I have an FN Tactical in 45 and I shoot well with it! Go figure. But my 1911 is by far the best for me.

If you can rent at a range close to you, do that. It is well worth the expense, only trigger time will show you what is most suited for you.
