Does anyone know where to purchase (if legal) factory hollow-point ammunition, or do I need to reload it myself.

I was reading that it is legal to import this type of ammo now, but I am not sure who is doing so.
 
From my understanding you can get it from any store that carries it or is willing to order it in for you. I just bought a box of Fiocchi .45ACP to try out.
 
My understanding is that it has always been legal, just that it was not being approved for import into Canada, so for the longest time if you wanted to use hollowpoints you had to hand load them.

There are appearantly several brands that are now being imported and you will likely be able to find some at specialy shooting (as opposed to sporting goods) stores.

They are pretty pricey though, because they tend to use premium components, and will be about 2x what your run-of-the-mill plinking ammo costs, and 2.5-3x what you could load them for yourself.
 
Yes but you live is semi-free Alberta! Since we got Victoria back as our registrar for guns system now is two weeks and counting. When it went through Alberta took 3 days tops!

why not just load your own...

Edit: I used to load my .44 with XTP HP bullets, but switched over to something cheaper…

I found some at TSE...thanks for the advice guys. Picked up a box of Winchester Silvertips and a box of Win. 147gr. SXTs. They aren't cheap by any stretch though...about $50 for the two boxes. SXTs only come in 20 round packs.

I was hoping to find some Gold Dots as I have heard many good things about them, but I guess I will have to keep looking.
 
These are for rifles, right? - Or did they change the law that states that its illegal to load hollow point ammunition into handguns. In the early '90s it was considered a prohibited weapons violation. I believe the fine was $5,000 per round maximum.

And that restriction only concerned the importation and not possession or use.
 
and incidentally, if someone suggests that they believe something may not be on the up and up it is an attempt to help, right? I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that people check to ensure an activity - whether shooting related or ping-pong related - is legal before they end up standing in front of a judge with nothing but "I thought it was okay" for a defence. We have more screwed up illogical regs on the book in this country that if someone suggested to me it was illegal to shoot at a range on Thursday two weeks before a full moon in December, I'd check it before I did it. Since I no longer own a handgun I'm unlikely to load anything into one, but would hate to see someone else get effed over for it.
