9mm In A 1911

Been away from handgun shooting for a while and thinking about getting back in. Always liked my 1911's but thinking of a 9 mm due to ammo cost. Not wanting to get back into reloading. Does the 9mm function as good in a 1911 as the 45 ACP?

Had a 9mm norinco that was ok...had a stainless 9mm Taurus that was really very nice..and if I had the cash I’d pick another STI ranger in 9mm ...love sti’s
 
I have a Ruger full size 1911 in 45, and a commander in 9 mm with an aluminum frame. Both have zero malfunctions after 500+ rounds through each.

I think that with reasonable quality guns and assuming you don't happen to get a lemon (which I've read can happen even with expensive 1911s), you should be ok with a 1911 in 9 mm. For me, the commander size just makes more sense for a 9 mm, but that's just my preference.
 
From personal experience, the Colt Combat Commander in 9mm is awesome! :cool:

My Norkie 1911 9mm ran flawlessly on Tripp magazines and the original Nork mags (after filing down the front of the magazine followers, between the 1 and 3 o’clock position). The only reason I sold it was it was absolutely boring compared to my other .45acp 1911s.
 
Interesting, it's a Norinco I was thinking about. Even more interesting, I had a friend (since long departed) who had a Combat Commander in 9mm and it never worked. Must have been a lemon. That's why I asked the question.

I have a Norinco 1911 in 9mm and my wife has a stainless SAM in 9mm. They both work just fine. I'm planning on turning my Norinco into an IPSC classic gun so I can save on ammo as well. Just have to get around to doing the work, I even have a bunch of parts to do it.

I've seen issues from the Norinco 9mm 1911; it's ummm a great gun if you want to learn how to fix 1911s, but if you want something that runs much more flawlessly then moving upmarket can be a good idea.

I have 2 Nork 9's and they are sooo accurate. they are very decent guns. The "blued" version seems to be made better than the "chrome" version.
you wont be disappointed. shoots as good as my CZ shadow sp01. I have not owned a 45 that has been as accurate as these 2 np29"s

No problem shooting my swingers at 50 yards.

using LawMan 145g I have hit these same targets at 100 I push all my hand guns to the limit. youd be surprised how far these np 29's will shoot accurately .

you've seen? do tell what you have seen. I have yet to find any functionality issues from these firearms.

SAM's are worst. If my SAM 9mm 1911 wasn't a gift, I probably sell it and buy a Norc.
