I've been doing a lot of reading about shooting 9mm rounds throuh my Springfield XD in .40 S&W. I know that Barsto makes a conversion barrel but I've read conflicting reports about if I need to change the spring. Sounds like my .40 mags will handle the 9mm rounds which I think is neat but I wonder if it will hold more than 10 rounds that way...

Anyone try this or have any input?

.40 mags lips should be wider so it may not hold 9mm ammo. but if it will it would probably hold 12 rounds... you can get 9mm mags if you want.

I can fit 13 9mm in my .40 mags and they seem to fit just fine. I haven't tried shooting it yet though as I don't have a barrel so I don't know how well they feed.

its a question CFC never took a stand on. can you use your 40 sw mag to shoot 9mm. Or what hapen if you have a 7.62X39 AR mag and fit 7 5.56 in it etc, etc

they shoot just fine, but the don't hold the slide back if used in a 9mm xd, I know that. Be aware that a 40 mag loaded with 9 becomes a prohib device, if that worries you.....:bsFlag:

Talk to 'Head damage' on the board here....
He futzed with converting his .40 to 9mm. Not reliable, and too much a pain in the azz to bother (imho). I've tried running my XD40 mags in my XD9 and they work great...If you want to concentrate on doing stopage drills.
Comparing costs of conversions to a new or new-to-you pistol, you'd be better off getting a whole new gun. As always, ymmv.

I am pretty sure there is a legal exception to using .40 mags in a 9 IIRC...something along the lines of "Using magazines the gun was designed for"
or something. Correct me if I'm wrong.

huh, I must have been lucky, the two I had both feed very reliably, but it's gonna be an iffy thing, probably doesn't take much to go from one extreme to the other.....
