Hello everyone.

Is there a factory loading in 9mm para that qualifies as "major" power? Or all 9mm's essentially in the minor catagory?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

I know of a couple 9mm major open guns and I think you're above most posted reloading data and you use cases once. Though I've also seen a lot of .38 super cases with no headstamp left littered around.

Quickload says: 5" barrel, 6 grains of power pistol behind a 147 xtp @ 1213 fps makes a PF of 178.3. Pressure is 41320 psi, 9mm luger +p SAAMI max is 38500 psi. It's also a 9.6% compressed load...

Probably gives an idea?

for standard division, its a no go for 9mm and major, the minimum caliber is 10mm for major with provisional acceptance of 357 sig for major.

It would be (nearly) impossible to make 9mm major ammo within SAMMI specs, so you would not generally find it for sale.
It would most likely be tragic to shoot it in a gun not speciffically designed to do so.
Some of the older IVI ammo, designed for the SMG I believe, was pretty closeto major power factor.

Thank you all---it looked pretty well out of reach. But even if possible, how many handguns can routinely handle the pressures?

I used to shoot 9mmMajor, back in the '80s. I found that any pistol with a well supported chamber would endure the major load. I used a Browning HighPower and a Star Model B. (with heavier springs, of course)
I also tried a Colt Combat Comander with a standard barrel... I found-out that there are steel inserts in the Pachmayer grips I was using; but it still made my hands sting.

And I got several reloads out of my cases, I was much more likely to lose the case than to retire them because of reloading issues.
