9mm load

Hello I am looking for an IPSC 9mm load.

Bullet = 124 CMJ
Powder = Tight group
Using small rifle primer

Thanks all

I use Frontier 124gr CMJ
4.2 gr Titegroup
Fed small primers
140 power factor.

sub the frontiers 124s for Hornadays 124 wad cutters, the bullets from Hornaday are consistently .1 gr of stated 124 gr..

Keep same load data

Another point look at your min oal. try and gauge it from your barrel..

Fremen, hope this post isn't too late....

I have just started re-loading 9mm myself and I found that:

With 124 grain CMJ bullets with Titegroup powder using small pistol primers (Winchester).......

- 3.8-3.9 grains using OAL of 1.169 I had a power factor of 122-125
- 4.0-4.1 grains using OAL of 1.169 I had a power factor of 124-126
- 4.1 ish grains using OAL of 1.54 I had a power factor of 132.5
Last load test was tonight at the RA Centre (I just got home).

So for now, I'm going with the last one 'till I learn/find out more ;)

Cheers!!

Why so hot?

RePete,

Why are you using so much HS-6? Quickload calculates your power factor at 154 and your pressure as 38,266 psi?! Is that "push" accompanied by a BOOM?

I use 5.6 gr of HS-6 under 124 gr Frontier CMJs. That gives my a PF of 127.

Maybe we have two very different powder lots? There is a lot of discussion on the BE forum about large variations between lots of HS-6.

Anyway, maybe I need to try some more loads over the chrony...

One of my IPSC loads is

124CMJ

6.7gr HS6

I like a push not a snap to keep on target.

Quickload is way off with HS6. on 115, the Lyman manual says up to 7.2gr, which quickload says 'boom'.

QuickLoad is program that SHOULD give you a starting point and should not be relied upon as gospel. Too many people think that it's the be all and end all, it's not.

I'm not saying that it's a bad program, I'm just saying don't believe everything it says. Check the manuals.

QuickLoad is not a replacement for the manuals.

The max is 6.8gr, I suggest that you check your manuals.

My load chronos at 139PF in MY BHP, and I don't have problems meeting PF, unlike people who game and run close to the minimum. Just look at some of the people that shot the Nationals last year.

Good advice...

Hmm...

Sounds like I need to get the chrony out!

I noticed that it was next to impossible to get QuickLoad to give the same results that the Hodgdon's Manual gives.

Is there any way to update the powder values in QuickLoad? I know you can edit the powder table, but where do get the values. Coefficients of burning etc...

I started out with 6.4 gr of HS-6, worked down to 6.3 gr which I used all of last year. Then, on advice from a couple of top shooters, I began working down to a load that would just run my stock P226 reliably and still make PF.

One of my favorite loads isn't to far off of RePete's load, 6.5gr. of HS-6 with a 124gr. Frontier FP. It does 1140fps out of my Glock 17 with a very low SD and extreme spreads, its actually the best of all my 9mm loads statistically speaking and accuracy wise. Its a little hot, but not hard to keep the sites on target. I love HS-6 in 9mm, more so than Titegroup, I feel Titegroup performs the best in .40S&W.

Yes there is, and the manual tells you how. Having said that, I wouldn't do it. You might adjust it to get chrony'd values for a given bullet weight/type, and be way off for a different weight. It's not as simple as how fast or slow the powder is - the curves have inflection points.
