I know this may not be the right place to post this but I would like to know any starting loads for IPSC production class.

I shoot a M&P 9mm

Is it better to shoot lighter bullets faster or heavier bullets slower??

I was thinking of using 124gr bullets. I see alot of mention of using clays under those bullets but do not see any good data on that powder with 9mm

I use 4.1gr of Hodgdon Universal Clays with Federal SPP and 124 Frontier plated bullets (FMB-005 on Marstar's site) with CZ SP-01 Shadow that makes PF125.
Depending on the gun you may need to find your own OAL and powder charge to make Minor and cycle 100%.
Remember, making OAL lower creates more preassure thus less powder is needed.
 
well the theory is that in a non-compensated gun you want to use heavy bullets and a fast powder, as you want the powder to all burn above your hand and not in the barrel. by going to a heavier bullet you need less powder to make your power factor. however there is a lot of debate over using 147's and 124 in a 9. Cathy is shooting a CZ in Production and she prefers the 147's.

for 124 frontier round nose

i have tite group 4.2 @ 1.130 makes about 132pf in shadow 135 on G17
longshot 5.2 @1.130 makes 133pf CZ 138 G17
Clays 3.7 @1.130 makes 129 CZ 130 G17
231 4.6 @1.130 132 cz 134 g17
hs6 @ 1.130 6.2 under minimum load make 132 cz 134 g17 not a good load for me

147 i got 4.0 gr of longshot @ 1 .10 cz
and titegroup 3.3 @1.10 130pf glock17

except for the hs-6 load that i personnally don't like(to much powder for nothing) ,those are one of the loads that i used in IPSC over the years
currently the longshot 5.2 for the shadow is really good for that gun it snaps a bit but the gun get back on sight really fast(slowest powder i can get)

for the glock the 3.3 gr titegroup with 147 gr bullet is really good for the gun , it doesn't need to be tamed with you right hand (i don'T have to switch my grip to get a good control of the glock)

Back when I shot a Glock I use a heavy bullet (145, 147, 150 lead bullets) with medium powder. Win 540, AA#5. The gun felt pretty soft of course I find lead bullets feel a bit softer anyways. Today I'd be tempted to try 147 jacketed over N350 or 3n37 and see how it feels.
 
I shoot 124's with 4.2 grains of bullseye. It's a minor load in my gun and works well for me. The 147's should "buck" less but honestly I can't tell the difference.
